Burgundy suit, what colour shoes

I might be getting a wine red suit in the near future. Should I wear black shoes or dark brown with it?

Sorry, mark but oxblood cordovans are not an option at this point in time.

As for cordovans, you never know what eBay might turn up -- inexpensively. I'll keep my eyes posted for you, if you like. What's your shoe size?

I think that, with burgundy, it's better to go darker than lighter. In fact, I think black shoes would look fine. (Burgundy and black go well together.)

I think dark brown would look better with a dark red suit. Black is too much of a colour-jump.

No it isn't but black and white spectators, as already suggested, would be dashing. Match the socks to the suit or possibly a silver grey. Then you could go with with a silver grey pocket square and a dark blue grenadine tie, silver grey fedora. Oooo, it gives me shivers just thinking about it.

That would work.... I tend only to wear co-respondents that have white in 'em in the warmer months (in practice, I crack them out from St Patrick's Day, and wear them usually til the Ides of September, as it were...). A lot of folks wear them year round now. I have other two-tones in darker hues I prefer for the Autumn and Winter.

Burgundy looks good.... I'd also happily wear brown (a rich chestnut, though, rather than a light tan) or black with that colour - depending on accessories (hat, braces, socks, pocket square, tie.....

Thank you everyone for the show suggestions. I have decided to go with these for footwear.

I now need to go know some other things, such as how much longer to make the pant legs for a proper 2 inch external cuff & how wide the lapels should be on the waistcoat & suit coat for a proper late teens, early twenties suit?

Interesting don't know if I have ever seen gimping (saw tooth) treatment around the foot opening. It would not wear well by weakening that section of the shoe.
