Probably nobody knows, not even Burberry (and they don't care). The majority of companies are terrible at keeping records of their past products, if they even tracked their products in the first place. Rolls Royce is a notable exception, but that company doesn't even exist anymore as a stand-alone entity, and one could argue that RR/B fans probably have more info than the company itself. Burberry will have made a thousand variations of their coats over the years, and probably repeated reference numbers. You will probably never find out what those numbers mean, unless someone happens to have the same coat and knows where and when their grandfather purchased it. What are the odds of that? If this old coat you've come across fits and is in good condition, buy it and wear it.

Thank you for your answer! maybe you know what it's like if you had seen something , and then ...
I saw in a magazine with the description years ago this coat :" This is the default Burberry coat No 1399". and now I 'm looking because I thought there was really only a handful of types of the coat .
but i remember it could be the trench humphrey bogard wore. so i´m looking for this number of burberry trench !!!
