Burberry(s) check query

I did a search, but didn't find anything. If this is a duplication, my apols to the mods.

We recently acquired a womans vintage gabardine Burberry raincoat from a well travelled, but now elderly, relative. The coat was probably purchased in London in the 60's as I know she lived there for a time. The coat is in excellent condition and will be treasured by my daughter.

The coat is labelled Burberry's of London and the check lining is much pinker than that used currently. I can't provide pix just yet as the coat is at the cleaners. It doesn't appear that the coat has been bleached at any time.

My query is when did Burberry's become Burberry, and when did the check change to the more browner hues used today. I always assumed that the pattern was a family tartan, and these don't get changed, do they?
All advice appreciated.

There are weathered versions which are a pre-worn version of the standard tartan. The real variation is dress vs. hunting which can include a color change, and could be the shift to more brown that you are seeing with Burberry.

Here is some detailed information on tartan variations.

Really, Burberry can do anything they want with the pattern though, as it was not created until 1924 and is not a registered clan tartan. They just need to keep it within spec of their trademark or change the trademark to reflect the changes.
