Camptown hat

I made an offer and it was accepted on the ninth of March there on eBay. The seller emailed me and said that there would be a delay in shipping as there were problems getting the liners for the hats.

On the tenth of April, I made an enquiry as to how the progress was coming on the hats and was told that progress was being made.

Still no hat, but patiently waiting.

The seller has been cordial and reassuring in his emails and I am still giving him the benefit of the doubt at this point.

I am sorry that I can't give you a rave review on the hat yet!

If you look at the second photo of the four, you'll see the hat that they are probablly selling. It looks very little like the other three photos.

Oh no!

I don't like this scene. I suggest you wait until Art has his new shop up and running and go for a custom hat at much better quality.

Only my biased opinion.

This hat has been much discussed at COW and seems to be reputable. Word is that the first batch is ready and will be shipped today. Naturally no one has actually seen one yet.
If you want this style I can also highly recommend Steve Delk (Fedora) of Adventurebilt hats. He has the same style in 100% beaver one of which I own. It is one of my finest hats and he has been a pleasure to deal with.

This is the hat project of JerseyJones, and is a fine hat. Well worth the wait. Jersey had his hat project going before Steve began his, and the development stage (as anyone knows who has ever developed a product from the ground up) was a hair puller from the get go. The company who is making the hat is a VERY old New Jersey firm that's been in business since before WW 1, and has been a hat maker for law enforcement and the military, keeping well back in the shadows as they haven't really needed work from the outside, but Jersey was able to find a way in, and the hats being made are first quality. Jersey and Fedora (Steve) have also had discussions regarding the hat in development, so this is one that's been as anticipated (at least for me) as Steve's were when that development stage was on-going.

I'm looking forward to receiving mine as well.

High regards! Michaelson

I appreciate the reassurance

I am glad to hear that my patience and confidence in a positive outcome to this purchase are not misplaced.

Getting any ground-up project under way is fraught with unforeseeable pitfalls! I would rather wait and get a top-notch product than have haste create something less than desirable.

Thanks for the insight into the project.

I guess I should also toss in the facts that the man is a full time lawyer and has a toddler at home on top of everything else, so I'm amazed that he's been able to stick with it the way he has.

High regards! Michaelson

Hello to my somewhat nervous purchasers !

Your hats are done as of today. :cool2: I will be picking them up either late today or early tomorrow.

These are my very first batch ever, so I hope you enjoy them.

I will let everyone know when they ship out and how.

Thanks for your patience !

Hi Zeus,

I assure you that those photos are all the same hat. The second pic was taken with my cheap digital camera by me and the others with my cousin's professional equipment by him.

I am about to take more pictures of the new production models for display in future auctions.

Thanks
Ken

Hi, Ken,

Could you comment on the stiffness and thickness of your hat? I read the old-friend narrative of your eBay listing, so does that mean soft and pliable? The only thing (of similarity) I have to compare it to is a PB of about 2 years ago. Could you relate your comments to that hat?

Sorry I haven't been following this develpoment as you may have answered all this at some point (and probably have). I don't get to COW much.

Hey Cab,

This hat is softer than any PB, but not as floppy as the PB Borsalino. Its pliable and shapeable, but sufficiently thick as to hold a shape well. The color is even and its a brute. I have frozen, soaked and dried the prototype and its tapered, well, infantesimally.

Is it an Optimo ? No. Is it a beaver blend Akubra competitor ? Yes, that's kind of the target. It will inevtiably go through revisions if the orders come in as well as the comments and if I can keep it profitable (modestly of course) I will push forward.

Mine is an old friend. That's the truth.

Thanks
Ken

Sorry Ken,

Didn't know it was your project.... It was just a first impression from the auction, I should have researched this a bit more.

Good luck!
