Typical post-war British workwear - flat cap, army surplus battledress and leather jerkin:

from the 1954 film 'Lease of Life'.

Even in the 1960s and into the 1970s, half the workmen you saw still dressed like this where I lived. If he'd delivered coal to my house in 1972, I wouldn't have been surprised.

Very keen on that shirt. I vaguely remember a time when my parents still had coal delivered; I'm sure the coalman wore a jerkin like that. This was around the very early eighties; by 82/83, my dad was buying it in bulk and driving it home. Don't recall the last time I saw a coal truck doing home delvieries. Or a coaltruck, for that matter.

Seeing the double breasted waistcoat, I immediately thought of this one from 'Peaky Blinders':

I love how they're dressing that kid. I wonder where they have it all made? Be nice if Old Town introduced some bits like that.

Funny you should say that, i was just visiting my old Dad and the coalman arrived and dropped off a couple of bags!

Here's Stewart Granger in the 1944 film Love Story. He wears an odd short jacket that appears to be some type of workwear:

He also this jacket in the 1943 film The Lamp Still Burns:

plenty of older working class blokes still dressed pretty much like that even in the 1980s. I still do!

I think it's still in the yard, but he doesn't seem to use it anymore. He uses two Land Rover flatbeds View of the yard and vans.jpg

This town is a very retro sort of place all round!
