I think there's a thread round here somewhere on that.... interesting story. I have heard of a few other German-born guys in Allied armies during the war, though none with quite that connection. Can't have been an easy position to be in (extrapolating from the experiences a guy I know who also hails from the Six Counties originally had after joining the TA over here and being on manoeuvres with some regular army who had had mates killed in Ireland).
There was No. 3 (X) Troop of the 10 (Inter-Allied) Commando which were made up largely of German and Austrian refugees. 10 Commando was composed of volunteers from all over Europe. Though it was the largest of the Commando units they very rarely fought as a unit. Elements of 10 Commando were generally attached to other units where they served as interpreters and guides.
