Breaking in a Horween Schott Jacket P613S

Hey there!

Wanted to get some thoughts from the community on the break-in of a heavy horween jacket from Schott. Obviously since this is Horween leather feel free to reference your heavy Aero or whatever it may be. This is a HEAVY jacket, weighing in at around 10lbs for a size small (which I own). I've owned it for about 2 months and the jacket feels like it's loosened up a bit since I bought it. I was wondering however how much these heavy horween jackets break in. With a leather this heavy does it ever get truly soft and relaxed like a regular Schott leather or do jackets this thick always put up a fight?

I'm not too concerned, this is more of a generally query. As of right now it's pretty comfortable but it definitely is work to put on and wear at times.

1. It will not get soft like his steerhide or naked cowhide.
2. You need buy another weight scale.

It's going to be more pliable and more comfortable but it will always be very heavy and stiffer than any other leather jacket you have previously owned. There's only so much break-in that can be done to a 1.4mm thick leather.

Let's call it 6lb...
Honestly Horween CXL isn't that heavy or that hard to break in.
I own 3 CXL jackets and they sit somewhere in the middle of my collection as far as weight /thickness goes.
The fact that it is a waxy leather makes it feel more rigid and crunchy when it is new, but it also means that it molds to you pretty fast.
Just wear it lots, and get it wet, that will speed things up a lot.
If you get natural rain, just go for a walk when it rains, if you live in the desert, just spray your jacket with water before putting it on and wear it until dry.

Very nice Perfecto MichaelKristy! It actually looks much nicer in your photo there than it does on the Schott website.
In my experience Horween CXL breaks in fairly quickly. It will always be heavy but it should feel like it molds to you after a little bit of wear.

Schott I feel like always shots themselves in the foot with their product pics. This jacket looks amazing in person!

Here’s mine! I call it my « Black Star », it’s a great jacket, tea core Horween steerhide. I prefer Schott’s pattern over Aero’s, after all, it’s the original. I particularly like their black and blue checked lining.
A purchase you won’t regret.

Man you guys tempt me very much to get me one("i love schott" American made babe! )And that says alot when you consider all the choices today, just look around for 2 minutes on tfl and you will see plenty of cool jackets. I think they are special in regards to offering an awsome jacket with no wait time. The price reflects this though, for sure.

I missed mine very much I even offered buy back from the person I sold the jacket, and the answer I got is this jacket became his most used jacket.
In my opinion, Schott uses better horween hide than aero, there is not much color lose during the wear, the only reason I sold the jacket is because one: the waist is loose and the belt doesn’t help much, two: the sleeve opening is big.

That is interesting point. I don’t think it surpass the LW’s speed demon. However, you have to pay extra custom fees if you want two piece back instead of weird three piece(at least for me), with potentially shipping fees for fixing/replacing broken zipper.
