Break in at Aero

I discovered the news earlier today on an Instagram posting by Holly. I really hate to hear of that happening and sincerely hope whomever were involved in the theft are brought to justice.

For most hobbyists protection by obscurity is probably ok. For Aero maybe a safe would be a good idea in the future? You figure a basic Aero is $1k... limited editions much more.

Yeah, exactly that. Even if they move them all for just a few $, it's still more than what they paid for 'em. One to a mate, the other to a mate of a mate, a guy that's gonna fence a few down at the market... One hundred jackets will quickly find a new home. Especially quality jackets.

It's wrong when something like this happens to a big soulless corporation, but Aero? They're our people. They're part of our community, they make something special that we hold a particular appreciation for. Companies that provide a niche product like Aero does, or Darcy Clothing, Art Fawcett or John Chapman, etc are made of people who have a passion for craftsmanship and styles either classic or inspired by the past, so we connect with them on a deeper level than just customer and vendor. I enjoy supporting these guys because they provide a product that is in tune with my particular aesthetic, and hell man, it's quality.

So we understandably take this kinda personal and wish the thieving scumbags who did this a quick trip to a lengthy period of incarceration. We'll all be on the lookout and do our part to help make it happen.

Wow, just wow. That's shocking.
I'm sure Aero has a good insurer, and all customers will be taken care of, but the stress of having to deal with all of this must be a real pain in the a$$.

Looking at the Aero FB page photo, I can't help but think that UK criminals are so polite, putting all those empty hangers back up on the rail, instead of dropping them on the floor. What kind of thief has time for that? Someone with (paradoxically) good manners? Someone with OCD? A first-timer? Seriously, WTF? That's really strange.

[Bartender Edit: let's keep speculation regarding the identity of the culprit off the boards, please. That sort of thing can actually hamper justice in the UK.]

Anyway, I hoop that the Calders can get everything back to normal as soon as possible, and the police catch the robbing scum.

BTW, I never realized that Holly was such a cutie. Hiding lights under bushels, and all that.

Heh, I guess someone really knew what they were after. I don't think that the regular opportunistic burglars would've ever bothered with a hundred something jackets made by a, relatively speaking, obscure brand, that could only be sold to a very niche market.

Indeed-- a niche market like us. 100+ jackets is a normal collection for some here. Every man
here is a suspect!

In all seriousness, coming so quickly after the last theft settlement and including irreplaceable
vintage jackets, this is a terrible act. But I'm enjoying everyones' theories. I think it wasn't a
bunch of braniacs with a plan. I think it was some stupid thugs with a big car or truck who think
leather jackets are cool and know others who do.

Hopefully we'll find out whose theory is best when they catch these losers.

Hi Holly, our sympathies for this awful event.
It would be really useful if you could publish an inventory of the items (model, type and colour leather, hardware and size) as soon as you can arrange it. Measurements could be useful too (if ofcourse available) in case the crooks remove size tags or something.

Hopefully we can help and track the jackets and the crooks down.

Oh, and the coat hangers, we brought back down from the loft where they'd abandoned them before squeezing them through a small window (which has been boarded over now!). Good coat hangers are hard to find so I guess it's at least something they didn't take all of them too...

I'm still mystified as to how anyone thinks they're going to get rid of these easily. Out of the corner of my eye I can see my shiny cordovan Bootlegger sitting up, staring at me. The idea that some ned is going to be able to offload something like that in a vintage clothes shop or at a market without drawing attention seems fanciful to me.

All the best in tracking down the jackets, Holly. So sorry for the distress you're all feeling. These jackets are meant to be shown off and talked about and admired and clearly we're all specification obsessives on FL who'll notice stitching, lining, hardware, material and geometry features if we see it. Specifications might help the Fedora Lounge CSI Division monitor images and classifieds (if police agree). Thanks for such an enjoyable time at the factory last week. Nil desperandum. Yes, folks - we're all, as fans of Ken's work, understandably outraged by this, but please keep speculation regarding this crime and the motivations behind it off the board. Bear in mind that this is the subject of an ongoing criminal investigation, and here in the UK we have strict laws with regards to what is published in such circumstances - yes, this does include online forums that can be read in the UK.

I'm sure all will come clear in due course.
