I apologize for not following the thought process earlier. When I think "Slacks," I am still thinking polyester 1967 Ford brown stretch pants.
I personally see no reason why you couldn't wear braces with trousers that are not part of a suit, unless they were Dockers or something. They'd even work with, say, pleated Bill's Khakis. It'd be best to also wear a sport jacket with them, or sweater, but not necessary. In fact, if you are wearing braces without cover, that's the time to go flashy. Wear some wide silk ones with an unusual design. You'll get "80's retro" comments perhaps, but ho cares?
Feraud hit the main point though. Do what is acceptable for the place where you're working, especially as a new employee. You can add your personality later.
