English braces and sock garters with an equestrian motif.

I just saw this. Very nice find

The sock suspenders in particular are quite remarkable - I've never seen anything like them.

In the 1940s and '50s, Fifth Avenue haberdasher/designer Calvin Curtis sold matching sets of braces and sock garters with whimsical patterns.

"Pre-WWII New York City haberdasher Calvin Curtis ... designed eccentric, often humorous braces for influential men of the period. For Franklin Delano Roosevelt, he created 'America Hurrah!' in the early 1940s."

I recently bought a pair of turnbull and asser braces in a paisley wine print made of silk.

I can't find a photo online to show the rest of you but I might try and link a photo later.

I have an old pair of off-white suspenders. The elastic fabric has yellowed over time and I'd like to clean them but I have no idea to go about it without possibly damaging the leather parts. Any ideas?

Wash in a mixture of tepid water and mild detergent (Woolite, etc), leather is more resilient than you'd think. That said, if the leather is dry you may wish to treat it with a moisturizer beforehand, as well as afterwards.

I'd been thinking of getting a pair of these from the bay for quite a while, but that all ended when I found these this past weekend.

I recently noticed a few listings on ebay, (they are over now) but the item description listed the suspenders as being silk with leather. I think I should have bid on them now, but was not sure if they would be O.K. or not?

Very nice indeed. You going into business with these?

I don't know about the rest of your Gents, but I cannot wear all elastic suspenders. They don't hold my pants up. I have two pairs of Albert Thurston suspenders & I like that the back is elastic while the fronts are either boxcloth or wool felt.

I've never had a problem with elastic ones, though I can imagine if the elastic starts to sag with age that can be a problem. My favourites are efinitely my Albert Thurstons, just wish they were cheaper! :eusa_doh:
