Hi all,

Do you think that you can get away with wearing the wrong bra size? Say for example you went up a back size and down a cup size. Would it fit ok?
I can't find any Corselettes or control underwear in my size, and following on from the what katie did thread, I can't fit into any of the vintage inspired lingerie.

It depends. If I do that it sometimes works perfectly or it sometimes creates the dreaded quadro-boob, when they sort of pop out the top. Have you kept an eye on ebay? Larger sizes do come up occasionally. What size are you? That might help everyone give recomendations.

So actually, I fit in the most different bra sizes..... Bra sizes are not really normed, so they can differ a lot. Anyway, from the same brand, I have 2 bras in 2 different sizes.... But you know, you have to try it for yourself....

Hi Landgirl,

I know of a UK-based site that does gorgeous lingerie in vintage styles. Unfortunately it's rather expensive (£55 for a bra!). They stock up to a DD, but I checked and they also offer made-to-measure bras for a bit extra. I'm hesitant to post the link--I can't find any nudity but it seems people are touchy about lingerie links.

As for fiddling with bra sizes I think you'd run the risk of having not enough support if you went up a band size and down a cup size. In general the majority of support comes from the band, not the straps. If your band size is too large, it will ride up your back and put too much strain on the straps--the result being rather sore shoulders.

PM me if you'd like the link.

I have a bright-red bullet bra with underwire, but most bras didn´t have underwire. It´s morely exeptions with wire that you´ll find. Buuuut... I can tell you that bullet bras usually don´t require a wire (I have heavy boobs and bullet bras are the only bras without a wire I wear ;-) )

P.s.: Google for Cameo Intimates. They have stuff for bigger-chested ladies. I never tried them myself though. Don´t let yourself scare away by the amount of nudity on this shop though.

I am a 34FF

I'm the same size and I just feel lucky if I can find a bra that fits! I've never seen retro bra styles in our size. I usually buy a UK brand Fantasie you are probably familiar with.

Yes I have a few bras by them. I usually buy from an online shop called Bravissimo - although they are not retro, they do cater for larger busted women. and have some pretty bras on there.

Try on the cameo intimates site, I just e-mail through a custom order on the red and white poka bullet bra!!

My understanding is that UK and US bra sizes are different, my size is 34DD here and I believe it would be 34E in the UK? Check some conversion charts, maybe you'll have more luck.

They are not exactly the same, check out the conversion chart on breasttalk.co.uk.

I have struggled to find a vintage bullet that fits, I fit a 30F here in the UK for a normal balcony bra. I get all my undies from a specialist seller in London she has been selling bras for years and is a fitting genius. Her advice is pretty sound and she has told me before that you can get away with going up one size on the band if you wear it on the smallest catch. The only problem with this is that bra's tend to stretch as they wear and should therefore be fitted to the biggest catch to start with so that you can tighten them up if they stretch over their life.

Cup size is also affected by the style of bra, a plunge style or a strapless can mean going up a whole cup size to get it to fit correctly. This may sound mad but the lady I visit is a bit of legend in her field and I followed this advice and she was right.

Bullet bras can be a law unto themselves, I have bought a 30F, a 32FF and a 32G in the past as they were the only things close to my size I had ever seen, and none of them fit very well. These were the 50's/60's type Figurette bras with the lace panel that does up over the front. I can get into the 32G but it does tend to squash me up a bit. So I guess there is a bit of trial and error involved until you find a brand and a bra that fits.

A custom made bra may be the answer, there are some great links in this thread!:)

Hmm.......that's true your very right. That could be an expensive experiment. If I see anything vintage on the net/during my travels in your size I will post it for you.

Thanks, I appreciate that!

Just heard back from cameo intimates and the bra I like can be made as a custom for $88 (about £44), which I think is pretty good considering most of the bras I have I paid out about £30 quid for. They asked for the brand I usually wear that has the best fit so they can investigate it!

Try secretsandlace.com. They have a curvy section there that caters to larger sizes and its painfully retro :D

For heavens sake all on this planet MUST do their part to put an end to quadro boob!
