Bowlers

I am guessing you asked the seller if it was the right size. ;)
Looks like quite a winner from the photos and the original box makes it even better. I hate to get a hat without a box because then I have to go find one for it. :(
Whatever the case, the price was more than right for a bowler in your size. :whistling

Nice, I've been thinking about one but certain questions arise. Where could I wear it? And most people think my fedora is costumeish :(

Where to wear a bowler? Well I usually bring mine out once a month for my Mason meetings. Beyond that If I am going to a formal event at night I bring it out then. Goes well with a three piece pin striped suite I got made up at the beginning of the year. But I see younger people wear them regularly down in the trendy areas of town. Keep in mind the Bowler can go with almost anything. It was made as a hard hat but was worn by Welders to Bankers. Just have fun with it.:)

I think bowlers probably have a bad rap because they have been used to such good effect in comedy. Just take a look at Power's avatar. The Stooges did the bowler a comedy turn or two as well.

JUDGE: "The witness will kindly drop the vinacular."
CURLY: "Vinacular?....that's a derby"

Intersting note, a co-worker told me, inspired by my preoccupation with fedoras, he had tried on several hats in a local hat store and found the bowler looked the best on him and the lady he was with agreed. However the suggested retail price of a new hat and the fact that he probably wouldn't wear it often kept him from buying it.

I think I'd like to have one, just because I like a lot of diversity in collections. If I found one reasonably priced and in great shape I'd snag it.
I'm not sure how much I would wear it, they're just too "Clockwork Orange" for me.

Its interesting that some people think dressing with a little individuality seems costumeish. Guess thats why i love halloween.

The bowler was the everyman hat for tis day. Every man wore one. I think it is more of a case of Hollywood imitating life than part of the comedy. The only one I really still remember with hat comedy was the Three Stooges episode where Moe and Larry snap the brims down on their fedoras to look more menacing. Shemp proceeds to snap the brim on his boater. Snap off is more like it. lol
I just got in a new bowler yesterday. Ventilated crown and all. I brushed it off and wore it for the rest of the day. :cool2:

LOL! I thought of it just the other day in the car and actually laughed out loud as well. Those guys wore some great hats. It seems to me that Larry Fine had quite a eye for fine hats. He's always wearing a nice one.

Yeah my friend and I always think of that when we see someone in a boater or straw hat. Larry did have some great hats. Moe had some as well but he always managed to screw them up one way or another.
I remember the scene you quoted earlier when Curly was on the witness stand. Then he drops his bowler. lol
