Bow Ties

I bought what I think is a nice, plain satin bow tie on eBay. It's a clip on. However, the description points to a '40s or '50s origin, as opposed to "1920s" on the title.

Great price on it too. It looks older to me but I'm far from an expert on Bow ties.

I agree, it was a great price! I don't think I was willing to spend very much more than the original bidding price, and I got it for just that price. As far as how old it is, I would certainly be interested in knowing if it could be confirmed, here.

Does anyone find that tying a bow causes tears or wear to the fabric where you can eventually see the lining? Is there a way to prevent that, or even repair it?

I didn't want to just have Clip on's, so I added these 2 self tie bow ties to the other 2 I have. I'm not sure of the age on these, but I liked the brighter colors and the designs seemed somewhat standard in self tie bow ties.

Unfortunately, I've noticed that while trying to tie my Tootal self-tie bow, the one I bought a year ago. That has put me off of real bow ties, for fear of damaging them. I have instead opted to buy several vintage clip-on bow ties, instead.

Yeah, I know exactly what you mean, so I save mine for certain occasions, which I hate because a tie is just a tie, no matter what knot you form. I guess I'm stuck with Four-In-Hands, since I only wear clip-on bows when I go to a dance because I'm a wild man (no grinding or the like, just some very intense shuffling) and I don't want sweat to ruin the silk around my neck.

Without a doubt; the bow counterpart to the wild Windsors of the "Bold Look". Be careful when tying it; for some reason my 40s & 50s Diamonds tend to wear out if tied or pulled too tight.

Thanks for the advice, I'll snug it up gently and not too tight.. I really like this one.

I didn't buy these ties. They are new ones obviously, but the design is a bit different than I've seen before. This is a seller on Etsy from Germany. Has anyone bought one from them? I kinda like it for the variety even if it is new. Not sure if I'll get one, I'm still deciding.

If anyone whats to see the rest of her offerings, here's the link.

Wow, those are really very nice, and they have a great look, almost like vintage made yesterday, new. Thanks for sharing this...I will check these all out, may buy one for my Husband, as he has tons of wing collar dress shirts to wear.
