Using some scrap fabric, a Singer, and one of my other bowties as a guide, I made myself a homemade article. It's sky blue in colour and fits perfectly.

It's not adjustable (I cut it to length), but it fits me wonderfully...

I don't wear bow ties very often, but this is the first Tootal bow tie that I've found - so i had to buy it (from a charity shop in Dorking, UK):

I`m new here, this is my first post, over the past little while I have got into wearing a bow tie, in fact at this point I`d say I wear a bow tie more often than a 4 in hand. I have not done a count but I think I`ve got about 7 or 8 now. I`ll have to look into picking up some vintage bow ties when I can.

Welcome to the board :)

Do you wear them on casual or formal occasions? I have only worn mine to dances so far, fairly formal I suppose

Nice find! Tootal makes some nice ties as well.

For an Englishman, Tootal were the best. God bless the inventor of rayon!!

Tootal made great ties, scarves, bow ties, cravats and dressing gowns. My first ever cravat was an early 1980s Tootal polyester cravat - bought back when I hadn't yet been introduced to the wonders of rayon.

Shangas,

I'd definitely like to see some photos too! I've thought about attempting to make a few of my own. The only problem is, I have zero sewing skills (apart from the occasional button repair). Do you use an inner lining to give the tie some stiffness?

Thanks Mike
At first they were strictly worn for formal wear but lately I have branched out to wearing them just to wear them, my black bows would just be for formal wear, something like this:

The others I've been wearing with suits like this:

I've also taken to wearing a bow tie at least once or twice a week. I always get comments on it I guess because so few other men are wearing them and they're a bit of a novelty. I live in a college town and I see a few guys wearing them on campus though. By the way, great pocket square!

Thanks, I just picked that one up a few weeks ago, I`ll probably wear my new bow tie tomorrow with another pocket square I found today.

the quarterly gathering of our church association at a Sunday evening worship brought the bow ties out... (taken with son's cell phone camera)

edit: the faces are sort of smudged over because I didn't get an okay from the other guys to post their likenesses on the 'net...

Here was the bow tie and pocket square for today:

Cool! Another great bow tie & pocket square combo! (Pocket squares have recently become an obsession of mine! ) Are the two pocket squares you've shown in your photos new or vintage?

They are both new, I have yet to find any good vintage bow ties or pocket squares in my area but I think I will have to search a bit farther a field.
