:wacko:I want it to be neat, symmetrical, and alert .......I'm not fussy.
Haha. I never thought about that. Do some people really do this? Why?IMO, the only real sin with a proper bow tie is to keep it in your pocket while wearing a pre-tie confection on a matching pattern, then surreptitiously switch the two later on in the evening. Seems to me more effort than learning how to tie the damn thing to begin with - and if you really do want to make a show of it, I should have thought it far more satisfying to undo the bow in front of people... To anyone who has even the slightest eye for detail, it is also screamingly obvious when someone tries to pull the tie-switch routine, and really worse than just wearing a pre-tied and being honest about it.

I have a bit of an obsession with my tie always being neat and correctly dimpled. But with wearing a bow tie I was advised that if it looks a little untidy then people know it's a real one and not a clip-on. But I'm too OCD about everything I wear looking immaculate. I simply can't go out unless my bow tie is symmetrical and dimpled properly on both sides. I really don't want people to think I'm wearing a clip-on but I can't leave it alone if it's not perfect. Does anyone else sympathise or am I being too picky?
I tend to not obsess over the angle of my fedora, how the crease looks or the perfection of tie knots.
Tie it and go I say.
