Man why would they release to Japan only? Surely a market in the US too (I’m tempted)

I actually am already set up with a relay-delivery company called Tenso which accepts domestic packages in Tokyo and ships them out internationally, so I could theoretically order this hat...But it's not online yet.

Japan is also getting a "vintage reproduction" Stetsonian with the replica keyhole tags. It's almost exactly what I said I wanted from Hat co a while back when we were about spitballing about the modern hat market. It's a brilliant marketing idea.

jlee what size are you? I know of a seller that has something you might be interested in.

Size 7

I saw that one too, looks awesome! Just got a message back that the BOtP is only size 58 and 60. Strange to do 100 hats in just the two sizes but maybe US has something up their sleeves... I hope

Ah ok. It's a 7 3/8 - one of those reproduction BOP's for Levi's in mint condition for about $275.00 but it's been up for a long time so probably cheaper. The seller is however in Europe.

The Dakota? The silverbelly one? The ironic thing is that the store that was selling those was in SF, and aside from not having the extra cash, I just really didn't want to go down to the store because parking is awful on that block. I have the natural colored Boss Raw Edge that JJ had as an exclusive. It's the hat in my avatar pic. That one was like the next to last 7 1/8 that they had that I bought anyway and put padding in. It's up there with my favorite modern hats.

Size 7, man I would be in trouble as my impulse control is practically nill. I sent you a DM with the hat I'm talking about.

I'll 2nd on the difficulty in finding parking at that store, but I was determined to get the last one they had in my size (7 5/8). It's a great hat.

I was at the Hatco store a couple of months ago having some blocking done on one of my hats and they had a BOP on the rack. It was a numbered reissue of a lot of 100. I tried it onand it fit perfectly so I set it aside, thinking I'd buy it but left the store forgetting to. I went back the next day and it was still there so I purchased it. It's #87 of 100. The store is only 35 miles from me so I try to stop in every now and then.

Hello to any or all Stetson Boss of the Plains lovers. I have an odd question. Been trying to learn as much as I can about this particular hat (the original vintage, not the modern reproductions) and would like to know if anyone knows the exact type of crown block that was used; if it goes by a specific name or number. In addition, if anyone knows the color of the ribbon that was commonly used. Thanks if you can help.

@Just Daniel recently picked up one that has the block number written on the tag. Be patient and Daniel or someone else will answer this for you.

What's your end game? If you want a block, Randal Alan has a BOP profile block that looks pretty good to me. If you want the number for the sake of it, well....

Hot take: I am agnostic on the BOP style hats we see pop up here in the lounge. To the best of my knowledge, we have never seen a hat that carries the BOP imprint. Now, to be clear, the lack of an imprint cannot be said to be dispositive evidence, as I don't know for certain if all BOP hats were stamped; or if it may have varied year to year; or if certain dealers had custom stock that were not imprinted, etc.

On my most generous days, I'd like to think of my No. 1 Quality as a BOP. The block looks good to me (186 maybe? Label is faded), but as I said, I can't prove one way or the other.

1902 catalog, BOP is top row right (raw edge) and bottom row center (bound)

Hatco still has a version of this die (or it was recreated) used in the Stetson Japan reissue.
