Borsalino Homburg in a size... 9?

This is a curiosity. Did Punti sizing go this high? With my luck, the seller was reading "6" upside down (even though he did state it was 24" in circumference internally, but that'd make it a size 7 in Punti -- oh, I give up!). I think I can see a few moth divots in the image. We'll see how it looks when I get it. I'll post pictures, of course. If it fits me properly, my first homburg will be a Borsalino!

My email to him when it was still listed:

"Would you mind measuring the internal circumference of the sweatband? Should come to 20 - 25 inches or 53 - 64 centimeters, depending. Thanks!"

His response:

"Just about 24". Thanks!"

Hopefully when I open the box I don't get a well-packaged... lamp.

When I saw that auction listing, I figured he was reading a "6" upside down. Let us know how it turns out.

Here's the email I just sent to the seller:

"Hi there. I received the hat today. Firstly, thanks for the fast shipping! There's a problem, unfortunately -- I bought it under the pretense that it was a size 9 with a 24 inch internal circumference, per the information provided by you. It's actually 22.5 inches in internal circumference and you read the number upside down -- it's a size 6. I'm requesting a full refund including the cost it will take me to ship the hat back to you. $70.00. Once I receive that via PayPal from you, I'll ship the hat back to you at whatever address you provide me with. Thanks!"

Oh, bother. ONE day I'll find a Borsalino that fits me!

Are there any 7 1/8 folks that would like the hat? One side needs to be steamed as it's a bit off-kilter and there are a few minor splotchmarks on the crown, but they definitely aren't moth bites and they don't feel any different than the rest of the hat. If anyone is interested, I'll let the seller know I found somebody who bought it:

Dumbjaw, you're hat is not a 7 1/8. It's a 7 3/8 that has shrunk down to a 7 1/4..

I understand. That's just semantics, though. I have the Punti sizing chart bookmarked. I go by internal circumference measurement. I have a 7 1/2 Adam that fits my 7 5/8 head perfectly because the circumference is 24". It wouldn't do me any good to list the Adam anywhere as a 7 1/2 or this Borsalino as a 7 3/8.

UPDATE: He refunded me, so the hat goes back to him. He had never listed a hat before. I gave him suggestions for his new listing because he was so nice. I wish all sellers were like him!

The search continues for my first vintage Borsalino!

A wise thing to do, but if the hat is 22 1/2 inches in circumference, then it fits my 22 1/2" head -- and I wear a 7 1/4. That's why I concluded that your hat is really a 7 1/4, instead of a 7 1/8.

Oh, really? Hm. I consulted a hat sizing chart and everything.

I appreciate the clarification, Marc! I actually missed the part where you corrected me on the size I had entirely.

It's good to hear that the seller was so curtious. I'm very happy for you that this turned out to be so pleasant (except for the part with the hat not fitting).
