Hello,
I have a Borsalino I am looking for information on, value in particular (how rare are these?). I know Al Capone frequented the MLR & Co. for is hats! So far all I know is it is a Borsalino imported by Maurice L. Rothschild & Co. of Chicago. It has the MLC price tag in it with an original price of $20.00. Anyone know more about this hat? Its age? Its value? It is in excelent condition!

The tag inside states as pictured below:

Greetings Dex and welcome to the Lounge.

If you look through the pages of the Borsalino Brotherhood thread and search the completed ebay auctions for vintage Borsalino fedoras you will get a sense of the market and models that surface for sale. Millions of Borsalino hats were imported into the U.S. and Maurice L. Rothschild accounted for a good number of them.

Borsalino dating is a long slippery slope, but I'll throw out a guess based on the style and felted brim edge centered around 1950, give or take a half decade on either side. The Borsalino brand is still sold today through better hat stores. The price for a new Borso seems to affect the upper limit for vintage sales except for very rare examples. You will find an appreciation here for the felts and construction methods of vintage Borsalino over the models in current production.

Borsalino Thirty in Sfinge (Sfinx) colour. Model is called Ta/Ludora. Bound brim at 7cm and crown at 10,5 cm at the pinch. Felted ribbon. Mid to late fifties. Sold for thirty dollars by Rothschilds; this was not a cheap hat.
