... What do you say to the controversy of vintage felt versus modern felt? Some swear up and down that the old stuff is superior, while others claim that modern felt is as good as the old ever was...

I haven't been to the museum or been a hat merchant but I have been handling vintage fedoras since my grandfather died in 1981, still have his Open Road that I trashed in reenactments of the War Between the States. I have a vintage early 1950's Borsalino Alessandria snagged off the 'Bay & a "modern" Borsalino Alessandria that I bought new at Peters Bros. Hats in Ft Worth in the late 1980's. Side-by-side comparison, there is no comparison in the felt. The 1950's felt is far superior in all aspects. Literally, like night & day. Next FedoraFest I get to, I'll bring them both.

Huge disappointment for me. I was just in Italy and did a special day trip to Alessandria. Found the museum. Nobody home. It was a Sunday, so it was supposed to be open. Hung around for over 2 hours hoping it would open. No luck. Will post pics of outside when I get back to the states.
