Greetings.

What does "Gran Lusso" mean in Borsalino quality?

I own several Borsalino both modern and vintage but only one is listed as Gran Lusso (Grand Luxury).

Qualita Superiore, Alessandria, (Italia) Marca Deposita.

Is it a quality designation? Indicative of felt composition? Years produced?

I've searched the Borsalino Brotherhood and elsewhere on the Lounge but have not found any specifics.

My apologies if this request is in front of me, like the bottle of ketchup I've been looking for magically appears in front of my face in the refrigerator only after I ask my wife where the bottle of ketchup might be.

Tks

As far as I know it's not a quality designation, though usually they are special finishes. Chamois/suede and longhair are common, but again not always. Models vary as well, but the Ecosti model is the most common one. From the information I have gathered most examples by far date from the 1954-1960 period, though I have found an earlier example and a few later examples. Not as straightforward an answer as you'd like maybe, but there it is. Never found a poor one, so if you find one it's well worth buying.
