I saw it yesterday in my hotel room in Florida. It is totally tasteless, raunchy, rude and crude.lol lol I did bust out laughing all the way through. Baron is correct, funny in parts, tedious in others.:D Hmmmmm Sasha Baron Kurtz???? Could it be????

This guy could be the next Mel Brooks. (Sasha Baron Cohen)

Oh, no! Don't be saucy with me, Bernaise!

Better, worse, or different than The 40 Year Old Virgin?

Different. It is stitched together, cringe comedy built from editing unscripted, scenes.

I must admit, when this movie first came out, I hadn't any desire to see it. But then, I heard an interview with Sasha Cohen on NPR, in which he did some talking and explanations, and they played snippits from the movie. The parts I heard sounded quite funny, but most of all, Cohen was an incredibly likable person. This can be a big part of why I see a movie. I'm not a big fan of the typical hollywood stars of today. But, he seemed different. First of all, the fame that he is receiving from this film didn't seem to be going to his head. Also, he just seemed like a guy who was having some fun. To me, comedy shouldn't be calculated, planned out. In his early days, his comedy was not, and that is what this movie is supposed to be like.
The parts that I heard critiqued sounded enjoyable. I would like to see this film just because the interview I heard gave me a good impression of the man playing the lead. On a downside, it does just seem that this is just another comedy in which silly people dress up and do outrageous and mostly offensive acts in the hopes that they make people laugh. Nothing wrong with attempting to put a smile on someone face, but as of late, many comedies have followed the same regime and IMO become too typical and a bit boring. But, this does look funny, and the man who plays Borat is a likable guy, so that makes it worthy of a looksee.

Missed it...

Sadly I missed Borat (and For Your Consideration [huh] before it left theatres. It seems like there has been a blitz of films in the last two months. I'm hoping to catch Notes on a Scandal and Children of Men in the next week or so.

I did see Sasha Cohen in Talladega Nights the other night on DVD. There was some definite "ribald and tawdry" humour in that one, but I caught myself laughing out loud a couple times and even at the outtakes at the end. Looks like they had a lot of fun making that one.

That was another silly one I enjoyed. S.B. Cohen driving the racecar drinking Perrier was hilarious! lol

I thought Little Miss Sunshine was funnier and a much better story.

I was brought to tears from belly laughing a couple times in Little Miss Sunshine and it was one of my top films for the year. What a great story, cast and what great direction.

My sister didn't get it at all and couldn't understand why everyone around her was laughing. So two different takes from a deeply dysfunctional family looking at a deeply dysfunctional family on screen. ;)

...Cohen was very funny as the Perrier driver! He definitely made the film more interesting and enjoyable.

I'd hold off on this one Daisy.

I wouldn't recommend this movie to Daisy. You always conduct yourself in such a dignified and lady-like manner, this movie isn't for you.:) It's more for the raw crowd.

Just saw this - holy smokes.

I dislike cringe humor. But it had a couple of moments. I would have worked better for me as a fifteem minute film.

I think my S.O. said it best "This movie is better in pieces. To sit through this whole movie would be too much"

I have only seen 1/3 of this movie and I couldn't stop laughing. When I saw the adverts for this movie I immediately thought that this would not be a movie I could watch. The trailer gave me the same annoyed feeling as I felt when I watched Napoleon Dynamite but I must say I did enjoy watching this one.

IMO Borat works much better in the short format in which he was introduced on Da Ali G. Show in the late 1990s/early 2000s. I thought the movie was hilarious in parts and in other parts just tedious.

But then, i'm a fan of deeply offensive humour . . .

bk

ditto for me.

also, the unscripted parts were definitely funnier than the scripted parts, as is with the ali g show.

I haven't seen the movie yet but there was so much hype on TV about it that I thought I had already seen the best parts. It seemed, well...just stupid.
