Bootlegger size 42" Shearling lined Brown CXL Steerhide

Looking to move along this fabulously beautiful Bootlegger which I recieved exactly as described from another member here. Unfortunately the fit is just a bit off for me and (after two failed attempts to buy otherwise) I've placed a full blown custom order with Aero so I might secure the perfect bootlegger for me. This is a phenominal jacket. Weighs a ton and is in perfect condition. Looking to simply move it along for the $825.00 I paid. I've not sold much throgh this forum but I have a long and trusted feedback profile with eBay. The jacket is listed there as well but would happily sell to a member directly through this forum.

Please feel free to contact me at: ton312@rcn.com with any questions. Thanks

Is it too big or too small for you? Would you say with the shearling it fits small like a 40, or true to size?

For information, if Aero build a jacket as a shearling lined one from the off, they start off with a slightly larger "shell" - i.e. a 42 shearling-lined Bootlegger will be the same size shell as a size 44 with drill cotton lining - in order to accomodate the thicker lining. If, on the other hand, the lining in this jacket was a retro-fit on a Size 42 Bootlegger, it'll fit like a size 40.

The Bootlegger is based on the 50s halfbelt (just a different front to it), so it's snugger than a HWM, but not as snug as one of the prewar halfbelt designs. I wear a 42 in my Bootlegger, while my Dustbowl is a 44. Both fit around the same. That said, if I wanted to fit a chunky seater underneath, I'd need to go up to a 44 in the Bootlegger and a 46 in the Dustbowl.

Hope this helps a bit! Good luck with the sale - looks like a gorgeous jacket.

Thanks Edward...I've had quite a bit of difficulty sizing Aero jackets...I've owned a CR in a 40" too small. Two j-106's in a 42 and while a nice fit a bit loose for my taste. A size 40" j-106 that fit identically and measured the same as the 42". I finally contacted TB after purchasing a very nice cordovan BL in a 40" that just was too short in the sleeves and body for me. Hopefully this third iteration of a BL for me will work! If not I'm just throwing in the towel and sticking with my Vanson and 10 button peacoat!

FWIW, I was the original first owner of this gorgeous jacket and I just wanted chime in and say that the Shearling was a custom order and so was installed as an original lining from the very start. It was NOT a retro-fit.

I, unfortunately, had to sell it because of sizing issues. Otherwise, not only is this a perfect winter, super warm jacket, the leather on this jacket is absolutely a spectacular brown, with subtle reddish variances that I absolutely love.

It most certainly is a gorgeous jacket! I feel it's just a bit short in the torso for me. If it fit me the way I wished it did it would never be up for sale! I'm sure you feel the same way Windstorm81!

You're right on the money, Ton !! For me as well, it was a bit short on the torso. It weren't for that, I would've never, never sold it ! I was in seller's remorse for quite some time and even considered buying it back after selling it, but then, had to force myself to face reality that the sizing wasn't going to work in long term...still a healing wound :)

I hear you...I'm torn as well...It's really right on the edge for me...I'm 5'11" but broad so it brings the jacket up a bit...I've never gone from scratch, so to speak, with Aero so I'm nervously awaiting the jacket I ordered. With all the trouble I've had getting the size dialed in I hope I've finally figured it out. This jacket is easily the nicest of all the Aero's I've owned...so if I can't move it along I won't be disappointed. I'm quite sure when the weather in Chicago makes it's inevitable turn for the worse I won't be too concerned about the length...hard for my crazy ass to justify two jackets of the exact same style by the same maker tho!

Yeah I really wish it would've worked out for me...I'm terrified about receiving the one I have on order with Thurston Bros. and it not working out! I've been through so many Aero jackets looking for the perfect fit/style and this style really is my favorite. The half belt back and lancer style front are just so nice together. The wait is truly agonizing!!!

Hey fellas--I'm the new owner-in-waiting of this jacket and just wanted to thank Tony for the opportunity to not only own my first Aero jacket, but join this great group. Looking forward to it.

Jacket arrived--Tony & original owner weren't kidding about the quality (and weight) of the leather. Feels bulletproof, and it looks exceptional.

I'm open to any care tips/advice from those who have Aero or CXL steer hide experience...

Here you go!

Note: It's very tempting to condition the leather w/something like NF oil--it's cold and DRY here in TX--but I'm following the advice not to do so.
