What a coincidence.
I just got back from lunch and was browsing this book at a bookshop.
The book looks really good and is selling for around 65 usd.

Harley-Fashions by Rin Tanaka

Hi Gang,

Just received my copy of Harley-Davidson fashions, by Rin Tanaka. Here are just a few scans from one seller. I was fortunate and got mine of eBay for much less than below.

All I can say is WOW ! The book is an excellent compendium of motorcycle clothing and styles of the period 1910-1950. Of course the majority of clothing is original Harley manufactured stuff, but BUCO and others are briefly covered.

I have an interest in kidney belts and many are illustrated. Plus the rain suit, with diagonal zippered front plus many other interesting and rare items. There are probably 30 different leather jackets illustrated, plus leather flying "helmets" all manner of gloves, goggles, etc, etc.

If you like motorcycling anywhere during this period, the book is highly recommended.

I have a copy of this for sale, read it a few times but not looked at it for a while. Even A2s get a mention plus a feature on British bike jackets and a snippet about Aero(Scotland).

I have both books and the Schott book also. I just got the Leather Fashion book last night. I have not had time to look at it in detail, but a quick glance tells me there is a lot more in that book than the Century of Leather Design. Leather Fashion has a lot of other stuff, helmets, boots, racing stuff and lots of vintage jackets. They are not the same book.

Leather Fashion would be better if you can only own one.

Thanks for your advice. Will start to buy that one, although I'm interested mainly in leather jackets and not in other vintage stuff.

I just got that one also and have not really had time to look it over. I have been buying a lot of leathers including a late 50s Schott. If you have any interest in Schott jackets you should have the book. It has a section dating their various labels, although there are probably some left out. It helps identify some of the model names and number. I got both these recent books through Amazon.
