...interesting, but given the number of rounds the law put into the two of them, I expected a few bullet holes. This post also gives new meaning to your tag line, Matt! End of the line, for sure!

The hats sort of do look like those pictured above. The black and white does not give you the exact details though. Interesting that a man's hat like the one pictured sat on the diminuitive head of 5'7" Clyde. I suppose the high crown made him appear taller. :p

They must have had their hats stored in the trunk or they wouldn't look like that.

I am assuming that, in real life, they shot them up like we saw in the movie. But not in slow-mo.

The entire car was shot up Karol. The hats would have probably been in even worse shape had they been in the trunk. I'm goin to do a little on line research in a minute and see if I can find out if they had recieved any shots to the head.

I closely examined the car when it visited Tallahassee, Fl back in 1988, and though the sides of the car was shot to swiss cheese, there were very few holes in the trunk, back end, or front of the car. The passenger section was perforated to the extreme, mainly the front seat area (specifically the front doors), so these hats could have easily been either in the trunk, or backseat. I tend to remember these being offered on ebay a few years back, but didn't meet the reserve, and were pulled from auction. Regards! Michaelson

Hmmm... This makes me wonder what actually happened to the bodies as a result of the first few gun shot wounds. Likely the bodies would have writhed quite a bit. The hats could have fallen off and landed on the floor of the back or front of the car. Bonnie's hat was flat and small. That could have easily survived as such unscathed. Clyde's hat was bigger and presents a forensic problem.
It could have falled to the floor and then under the seat. Clyde could also not have been wearing it. They say the car lurched forward and then rolled to a stop during the shooting. This could have thrown the hat in a number of "safe" places.
All of this being said, it does seem kind of improbable. :p

Bonnie was hit over 50 times, and Clyde over 25, which even the investigating report stated was strange, considering Clyde was on the 'shooting side' of the car, so they were hit more than just a 'few' times. Clyde was hatless at the time, driving in his shirt sleeves, tie hanging over the rear view mirror, had his shoes off, and was wearing a pair of purple lense sunglasses. (how's THAT for detail?) ;) I'm now leaning toward the hats in the backseat theory, as they specifically stated the trunk was full of guns and munitions that had to be carted off after the car was towed into town. No luggage.

No, but one lens was knocked out, and they remained hooked behind his ears after the shooting. Yep...details, details... ;) Regards! Michaelson

What I found disturbing in the report was that before law enforcement was able to 'secure' the area, locals were stealing everything they could from the car for momentos. One woman was rifling through Bonnie's purse, cutting snippets of hair off her head, and the officiers even stopped one man from cutting off one of Clyde's ears before they were run off and the car towed (with the bodies still inside) to town for autopsy. So, who KNOWS what was actually left IN the car when the offical examination was made! Regards! Michaelson
