I use a Sunbeam soft bonnet dryer than I inherited from my mum. She received it for her 21st birthday, in 1967. Works really well.

I'm posting this here because I'm not sure where else to put it. Also I did try searching with no results but please redirect if necessary.

I just bought a cheap vintage dryer off ebay. Works well and is in nice condition. But oh the smell. I mean it's intense. It's clean (washed the bonnet and disinfected with bleach) but the smell lingers.

Any tips? What do you do when you buy a dryer off ebay? I think it's mostly the bonnet. Can you buy a new one or is there a way to get rid of this lovely smell. I have it sitting outside right now to try and air it out!

I have this one, the Babyliss Pro. I bought it new last year. It dries my naturally curly scrunch styled hair in about 15 minutes. I don't roller set or pincurll, I assume it would take longer to dry in those cases.I wheel it in front of my computer then roll it back into the corner when I'm done. Sitting under it right now!

hahaha...well I don't want to offend anyone but basically, little old lady. Mixed with what's probably stale cigarette. It's definitly better after I've had it outside all day, but still not rosey.

Practically on the verge of tears here. The only thing holding me back is knowing deep down it's not worth crying over. Just found out that the hose to my too-good-to-be-true cute vintage hair dryer is completely shot. :eusa_doh: Why oh why didn't I check that part out in the store? Has anybody else attempted to replace one of those things? It's a Lady Sunbeam, I'm guessing circa 1960.

Just thought I'd give this thread a bump and ask advice on a "hood" (the hard top) portable dryer. I know many models contain asbestos so, what models do you know are safe? Is there I site I can go to that will tell which ones do or don't contain asbestos?

I'm seriously considering one, and I can get a vintage one at half the cost of a brand new one.

any ideas?

Here are some hooded hairdryers for a little bit more. Easier to use, I'm actually buying one today! It will make me roll my hair more often.

While looking throught the sally beauty web site I found this Andre Sleep Cap/Bonnet Satin Swirl http://www.sallybeauty.com/Andre-Sleep-Cap/ANDRE29,default,pd.html?cm_vc=SEARCH which is almost the same type of cap that is used when sleeping to hold in curlers and if you are able to find a mesh one this type works great when drying your hair under a bonnet dryer.
