Watching reruns of Bonanza, noticed the Sheriff's hat. Looks like a Stetson Open Road, nice fawnish color. Most of the hats worn by the main characters had a porkpie or teardrop crease. I never really noticed that Lorne Greene had a really nice western fedora. I know Baron's website claims that they supplied the hats for Bonanza but I highly doubt it.

It would make sense that the sheriff's hat would be an Open Road. Stetson claimed to be the supplier of hats to Bonanza. Next time I will have to check the credits to be sure. Baron's claims to have made every hat you see in movies. :p
The Sheriff's hat is, of course, not period correct. The Open Road was yet to be invented until about 52 years later. The hats for the rest of the cast coul;d have been pausible---especially Hoss' hat. A high crown Boss of the Plains style hat would have been available in that era. They could have been shaped however the wearer felt like wearing it. ;)

Regards to all,

J
