It's well worth downloading the catalogs for this auction -- it takes a while, but it's like taking a guided tour thru the back of Hope's attic. There's a ton of strange little trinkets and doodads, but there's also some fascinating historical artifacts, like signed photos from everyone from President Eisenhower to Zasu Pitts (not in the same shot, alas), and stage props from various overseas performances. And yes, there are hats:. Bob was a size 7 3/8 Long Oval. Who'd have imagined?

Wow...that catalog looks awesome. I may not be able to bid on any of the items but it seems worth buying the catalog.

Thanks for the heads-up!

I have a connection via Cleveland, Ohio. Where my parents were born and raised. My dad used to tell me that his paperboy was none other than Bob Hope. A bit older than him, so they didn't really hang together or anything, but a connection nonetheless ,..maybe I should try to get a piece of this. [huh]

I have never been one to seek an autograph, but besides Winston Churchill, the only other person I would have liked an autograph from would have been Bob Hope. Being in the military, I appreciated what he did for the troops more than anything else.

There was a piece on TV recently, as I recall, about those cruise boat auctions. Apparently people were paying up to 5 times as much for items than comparable prices should have been. Bidders were provided with spurious estimated values on a lot of the art. It wasn't forged work, but simply grossly overpriced. Some of the buyers sued the sellers and won. I don't know if this would pertain to the Bob Hope items, but it's just something to be aware of.
I would love to own something that belonged to Bob Hope. Maybe a handkerchief or something. But I don't think I need to spend money on such stuff at this point in my life.
