It seems to me that Dobbs often competed directly with Stetson on color combos and style cues, and even though I'm a big fan of vintage Stetsons, Dobbs almost always seemed to out-do them.
I only have two vintage Dobbs, so I don't have much to go on in terms of personal experience -- but, I've got to say, the Dobbs 20 really shines compared to my vintage Stetsons. At the time this hat was new, a Stetson 3X would have sold for $15, and the Dobbs went for five bucks more than that. So, it's really nice felt, substantial but buttery soft -- and I just love that weight. While vintage Stetsons abound, vintage Dobbs lids seem to be in shorter supply. But, I'm with you, Gene -- damn nice lids!
