My blue pinstripe DB suit arrived today. I believe that it's 1940s. Here's a few pictures:

Skeleton lining:

Talon zipper on trousers:

Union label inside jacket pocket:

I found this half of a heart locket inside the ticket pocket of the jacket. I wonder if it could have been from the original owner of this suit from all those years ago...

It reads: "Etta".
Thanks for looking!:)

It's a two piece if I remember correctly... it's a very nice suit... but, you may want to button the coat on the other side.;)

The half of heart item is really cool! I think that's kind of sweet and sad at the same time... whoever this woman was, obviously she was loved.

Very nice. Chuck some pics in the Show us your suits III thread.

Can you see the copyright date if you fold back that small overlapping lining piece? '36 or '39. Hard to tell which.

I forget, is this 2 or 3 piece? How does the fabric feel?

I'd say it's a medium weight. Too warm to wear at this time of the year. It's a two piece. I looked at the union label again, but I can't quite make out the date. Can you post a pic of a similar label so that I can know what to look for?

I'll put some pictures in the "Show us your suits III" thread presently.;)

Thanks for the compliments!

I'd have that pressed each time I got it cleaned! Such a sharp look! Also, it helps the vintage suit look vintage!;)

I like the line in the sleeves too,but I was under the impression that wearing it that way was something of a hold over from the military. A bit of the old soldier showing through?

Well, the '36 and '39 are almost identical.

1936:

Two variants of the 1939 Tag:

1939-1.jpg
1939-2.jpg

See just under "Workers of" on the left at the bottom (top right of your pic)? That's where to look for the date. It says on the tags above either "copyright 1936" or "copyright 1939" If you were a very nice gent you might even unpick the stitching of the lining to let us know what it says. ;)

But, it can be very aristocratic;)

Actually, the creased sleeves were mostly popular in the pre-war years. There were men pressing their sleeves in the late 40’s but, it wasn’t a sign of GI’s keeping in trend with the military styles… dry cleaners of the time pressed creases into sleeves in those days… started to taper off in the late 50’s.

From the pics that you've listed Baron I'd guess it's the 1939 label. I'd have to undo some of the threads to be sure...(sweats a bit when thinking about it...). My curiosity may get the best of me yet. I'll keep you posted:rolleyes:

Interesting about the sleeve crease. Either way it's a look that I like.

I think the military was doing the creased sleeve thing long before the golden era. One of our military uniform-interested chaps can confirm or deny ...

Never said it wasn't a "Golden Era" only thing... it was used by the military before the 20's... as far back as irons go I guess.

HEY, Baron!

Hey, Baron, remember my $35.00 suit?? We had a good discussion about dating those union labels. So, before '39, they weren't on the 10 year label plan? I'm pretty sure we determined my $35 number had the 1939 label and my tan "40's" dandy had the '49 date (think you and Marc figured '49 to '52 on that one).

I know the pictures are gone, but I'll have to refer back to that thread.

And in honor of my now :eek:fftopic:, 300th post, I'd like to say I'm felling pretty swell this morning and I wish you all the same.

Geez, that was lackluster...
