David I saw your unfinished lid at Bob's and the felt is gorgeous. That's one stacked crown too! Can't wait to see what you do with it.

That's a big advantage of living near one of the hat makers, Mike - you get to see a bunch of them first hand. I'm looking forward to getting this one on my head.

This hat needs to shaped and shipped :)

It does indeed, EggHead. Other than in this case, it will be shipped and shaped :)

That eggplant is great...I've been sitting on my hands thinking of a new brown hat, but on the other hand....

Thanks, Jared. I saw another hat Bob made in this colour - I believe on his Facebook page - and though it was really cool. Of course, with him able to make up his own colours, there is just too much choice!

DJH: love the color and ribbon treatment. Looking forward to seeing the bash.

Thanks CPT. I'd say there is a good chance that a common kitchen tool will be used in the shaping of the hat.

David: enjoyed the video. Like the Stratoliner in the video, too.

Talked to Bob today and my Goldfinch is on the block with shipping perhaps next week. I've hammered the poor guy with 7 orders since March so I'm excited to receive the first one.

OK, so here is the new member of my small (buy very stylish) Black Sheep flock.

This hat is basically Bob's Shadowhawk style, although I asked him to send it open crown so I could add my usual center crease.

The felt is one of Bob's hand dyed colours, Eggplant and the ribbon is black. I found it very hard to get the colour in the photos to do justice to how beautiful the felt really is. It changes a huge amount depending on the light - sometimes it looks almost black, sometimes a shade of brown, a dark red, purple - I've seen them all already. The shot of the underside of the brim shows closest to the actual felt colour, I'd say.

For anyone interested in dimensions, the brim (with double stitched overwelt) is 2.5 inches and I think (I didn't measure it carefully before creasing) the crown is about 5 3/4.

As with my previous Black Sheep hat, everything is expertly made and put together - I love the ribbon style. The tropical beauty liner is a cool tough as well.

Anyway, enough rambling on - here's the hat:

Congrats David, should have known it would end up with a roller dent. Still waiting for my turn on the block for a BSHW felt, the specs change every time I see the latest Bob creation.

Hi Folks:

I wanted to post a few pics of my new Milan from Bob at Blacksheep Hatworks. It's a comfortable hat, and the details are what we have come to expect from Bob. The color is hand dyed, and I believe Bob calls it Chestnut (or maybe Walnut??); Although the light, earthy, brown tones remind me of a good cigar ::cool: . The ribbon is a light brown.. almost a caramel color.

The brim is 2 1/2 inches, and the crown is a littlle over 4 1/2 as bashed. The ribbon is 1/4", and the edge binding is 1/16".

I hope you folkd enjoy the pics!

Best,
Tom

Thanks for the Eggplant comments, guys. Bob did a fantastic job with this hat.

Tom - great milan. I've always wanted one of those since I saw Jared's and yours now adds to it.

David, to follow up on my one word praise of the eggplant, the detail on that hat is fantastic. I'll be curious to see some noggin shots once the weather cooperates with wearing felt. I also really like the color--it seems pretty versatile in that it kind of changes shade depending upon the light. What colors will you wear it with?

Tom, your milan already has me thinking about ordering something similar extcept for the fact that I have a khaki with wine ribbon already in my lengthy list of orders with Bob. The walnut color and the edge binding really dresses that hat up.

This tread is getting expensive for me to read....
