Hi Guys,

So, the jacket I ordered a while ago is finally ready. It hasn't arrived yet, but I asked for some pics before it did which I got, and would like to share...

Jacket has the following modifications from the base that AL offers:

  • No flap pockets
  • No breast pocket
  • Decrease in length to 28.5" from 30"
  • Extra inside map pocket
  • Both map pockets stud closure
  • Silver hardware
  • Bi-swing back (no elastic)
  • Plain cuffs (not button or storm)
  • Handwarmer pockets slightly angled, black moleskin for lining
  • All silver hardware
  • Hidden pocket 3.5" long by 1.5" wide at base of left sleeve where armhole meets body
  • Black gabardine lining
  • 2.5" of cord at hem

Amanda was highly receptive, helpful and patient in answering all my queries and helping me in my decisions. She is a large reason I went with AL.

The other companies were, IMO, unreasonably more expensive which did not necessarily correspond to a higher quality, or were not willing to do the types of modifications I wanted, or did not have the type of leather I was after. Very happy with AL so far, and highly recommend them.

Obviously I'll post some fit picks when it arrives next week. Looking forward to opinions at the moment though

Cheers

Looks good Jingo. You made a good choice in going with a specialist maker in the end. That black goat is really very nice stuff. Did you have to wait long then? I got mine in four weeks which is pretty fast compared to most places.

Very interesting jacket. I can't wait to see "on-body" pics. I'm also curious... considering the "long strange trip" it's been for both you AND us how it fits and.... (drum roll) if you're satisfied. I personally hope you are. Anyone who's put so much mental sweat into a project (that's a compliment NOT a dig) should be rewarded.

I had a chuckle about the weed pocket reference...Anyway, does the half belt look high to anyone else?? I know it's tough to tell from the photos but it looks like that's close to being under your arm pits..

Thanks all!

Final order was placed only on November 20th, partly due to delays in getting out samples and such.

Then I got an email saying it was ready on the 18th, so yeah about 4 weeks. I think almost every other maker had a far longer waiting period, except for maybe Johnson and Langlitz.

Alright, I'll bite. What's the 3.5"x1.5" hidden armpit pocket for? Keeping dime bags warm?

Or usb keys the way things are going. It just seemed silly to me to get a custom jacket and not get a hidden pocket....

Hmmm, now that you say that it does kind of worry me. I asked them to model the back after this jacket (without the back yoke):

Although the belt does look higher on mine than the one in the photo...perhaps by 2 or 3 inches...maybe that's because they didn't have a big enough piece of goat?

Hopefully it won't be a negative thing....will have to wait and see how it is when it arrives.

Very nice jacket. Can't wait to see you wearing it, you too i guess.

Why do you order the swing back without elastic? The vintage jacket has a joke, so the swing area is shorter and might not jump off so much as by a jacket with a large swing back liek yours. Hope any body can understand my german school english.

I have 3 jackets with elastic swing backs and can say that it works perfect. Very comfortable and the elastic band always pull the swing elements back.

Keep my fingers crossed that the jacket will fit you perfect.

The black goatskin is beautiful and it's good to know the hides are big enough to accommodate jackets as long as this one.

Re: the half belt. There once was a guy on here who was a bit of a knob, you might even say he was a major knob. Anyhow, half belt positioning was one of his areas of expertise (of which there were many) and I am as certain as I can be that were he here now he'd agree with me that this half belt is in the right place.

No dilly dallying with those fit pics ok

Thanks! Can't wait to get it...hoping it will arrive Monday or Tuesday. Pics as soon as I do

I ordered it without elastic because after reading some discussions on here...I didn't like the idea of the elastic wearing out or having to be replaced...many people had their bi-swing without elastic and after talking with Amanda she said it would be no problem to make it without elastic.

I guess I'll find out if it was a mistake or not...but as long as there is not a crazy batwinging thing going on, it should be fine.

It is sent via ParcelForce, and the tracking number works on the USPS site, so I am guessing USPS will deliver it the last leg of the trip. Since my apartment building has no buzzers I'm going to end up with a slip that I'll have to chase down...aye.

I have two jackets with bi swing, one is fine and the other could do with an elastic replacement. The first is 13 years old, the second is approximately 60.

Hopefully it was not a mistake leaving it out, although I did ask questions and feel Amanda would have advised me if this was the case. Will have to wait till I get it to see...

I think the belt placement is fine!
We are used to seeing shorter jackets.
On the longer ones, the belt stays in the same spot but the "skirt" gets longer.
I really hope it's all you want.
Good luck, and Post Pics!
