I have been on the outlook for a BK A-2. I own a BK Dodger and Duke. They don't come around in any size often. When this Monarch 44 came up I had to give it a try. It was fairly new and not worn much. It is Liberty Horsehide. When I got it I wrote the seller I would probably be selling it as I didn't like the fit. I thought it was too long. It is not a heavy hide, but still needed to relax a bit. I took some fit pics, looked at original Airman fit pics.

My thought on fit: if they would have handed me this jacket in WWII I would have put it on and walked away. Little tight around the middle, but I weigh 200 pounds. I'm very happy with the jacket. (I think I look like a bit out of shape old Colonel who doesn't fly!)

I own three vintage Monarchs and live not too far from their original factory in Milwaukee Wisconsin. So getting the Monarch labeled jacket was a bonus.

Like most here I have always admired the A-2. I have never had my hands on an original. I wore out an inexpensive reproduction. I also owned a size 44 russet US Authentic. I thought it was too big, so sold it. It was a very nice jacket.

The Monarch is the Liberty HH like my Dodger. The Dodger started to wear like overnight. I wrote BK about it when it was new. I did not know that it was produced to give that "overnight" wear. They offered a full refund, so that was not an issue. The Dodger I liked from first wear. I told Any I would give it a chance and see what happened. That was 6 months ago and the Dodger isn't going anywhere.

I knew what to expect with the Liberty Monarch and it is wearing. I'm going to document the wear. Some of the pics/video show most of the wear. I have worn this jacket and don't baby it. So we will see.

I collect/play vintage Gibson acoustic guitars. Several companies, including Gibson, started "relicing" guitars. Did not interest me. The Fender road worn stuff can be pretty cool, so I have softened on that. I also have a Eastman Californian is walnut I bought second hand. They use some sort of stressing/relicing. I'm just not sure what they do, but they do something. I like that jacket too.

Sorry to be so long. since most folks want to see pics!

Monarch Leathers post-war civilian A-2 I believe this is sized as a 46. Light quilt lining, light leather shell, light finish, crisp, rough texture, (the other jacket hides are very similar). Yes, they are all horsehide. very short and very comfortable jacket to wear. I have worn this jacket, nice and easy to throw on and go with some warmth

Monarch Leathers in horsehide. The better of the two is labeled with a dark green lining. The worn jacket was discovered to be the exact same jacket unlabeled with a light brown lining. Very similar horsehide as the jacket above. Crisp, dry, rough feel to the leather, very thin, but tough. I don't think I own another vintage jacket with horsehide with quite the feel. I wonder what the original A-2s are like.

The Monarch looks a bit tight on you?

Yep, it does. just needs to stretch out more! To me, a 46 would be too big. just got to suck it in.

Terry, great photo spread as always. Put the bathroom mirror reflection fit pics to absolute shame!!

So my only question, do you like the Liberty or not? Or is that yet to be determined?

The finish definitely does seem to wear rather quickly (for better or worse). I noticed the top coat coming off at high abrasion points (like sleeve cuff ends) within about a week or two of wearing my Aeronaut. It hasn't worn much since though (for whatever reason, which is odd as I wear the jacket damn near the most of all mine). That aside, I've come to really like the leather all around. It has a very soft hand and excellent drape; perfect for A1s IMO. And the russet appears to be absolutely stunning from pics I've seen of them in the wild.

With the A-2 I knew what I was getting. The feel, weight, and the way it wears is very much like the vintage Monarchs. I can't believe an Original Monarch A2 would have worn that quick. I don't think the govt folks would have thought that was cool! I do have a feeling the leather weight is very similar to the original weight.

I was hoping some of the folks that have experience with the originals would comment on the finish and weight of the HH jackets.

What do you think of liberty? I don't think they have that Victory HH available.

All these jackets are very nice! The wear pattern on the second monarch is interesting!
Almost like it was folded over and thee rubbed with something...
