I've been a Bettie Page fan for many years and I have amassed quite a collection of Bettie memoriabilia. I'm sad to hear she has passed but I truly believe she will live for many more years as an American icon.
Rest In Peace Bettie Page.

I can only hope that her passing is not the end of an era, but the catalyst for many more women to seek a little more glamour and va va voom in their lives. Perhaps all the press of her passing may generate more interest in the stylish gals of days past, and that is a good thing in my book.

Another link.

RIP dear lady

Apparently Bettie avoided the camera in later years. This is the last known photo of her at age 80, taken at the Playboy Mansion.

"All I ever wanted was a mother who paid attention to me,"

RIP Bettie.

At an early age Page learned to sew at the local community center; it was a skill with a practical application years later when she designed and made her own costumes, lingerie and bikinis to wear while modeling. She was the salutatorian of her high school graduating class. She was also program director of the dramatics club, secretary-treasurer of the student council, co-editor of the school’s newspaper and yearbook, and voted “Most Likely to Succeed” by her classmates.

Her own mother’s jealousy cost Page a scholarship to Vanderbilt University. Instead she earned a 1944 Bachelor of Arts degree in education from Peabody College in Tennessee. It was an uncommon achievement for a woman at that time.

I don't know why....she was still as charming as ever it seems. What a gal she was.

My heart dropped when I read the news. I've been holding out hope the last few days but knew, ineveitably, it seemed her time had come to an end. What a sad time...:(

I don't think she looked bad at all. She looks older but at 80 I should look so good.

She had a timeless appeal. It began for me with an underground bootleg VHS from a pirate storefront ("Mondo Video") in Berkeley in 1992. Until her obit, I had not heard that her life had been so miserable. Does that always have to be the case (ie, Clara Bow, Hollywood's "IT" girl, or others I have known personally)? Rest well, dear one...
