Hey guys, I recently got a "Dobbs" Houndstooth newsboy off of OFAS and when it arrived, the white was kind of yellowed . I took it to see if it could possibly be dry cleaned, but they woudn't do it. They said because of the age of the hat, they were worried that the leather sweatband would crack on it. The sweat is in good shape, no cracks....but they wouldn't be responsible. [huh]

So I guess my question is, how do I get this yellowing out so I can where it?

I don't have a problem with that IC, but I'd much rather post a nice clean hat.
I would like to know how to clean em too, I seem to wear mine when I'm doing something that I am likely to get dirty doing.:eusa_doh:

Since it is a fabric that can be moved around wouldn't a spot remover work? like one of those spot remover sticks where you would not have to wash the hat, just use on the stain and let dry?

Cross the we-can't-be-responsible whiney babies off your dry cleaning list and find a pro who cleans hats and caps without reservation.

Wool is among the best of fabrics in terms of holding dyes, so the yellowing is not fading but probably just dirt and smoke.

A good professional cleaning will have that newsboy looking snappy again. Then post some pics of it.

Oxyclean usually does a great job of making white whiter. You might check if wool's a fabric that it cleans well (I've heard NEVER on silk). Or perhaps start with some Woolite in the sink and a little soaking, and see how that does. AND...there's always the possibility that it never was truly white and yellowish-white is its true color.

Not true. I even had a bit of a squabble with the seller over it. She had it described as perfect, no stains or tears, very clean. I even took pics and sent them to her.....but that's a ther story we won't get in to. :eusa_doh:

Throw it into a 5 gallon bucket with some of this stuff:

Wear gloves, agitate around, let it soak for a while, then pull it out, rinse, hang out to dry. Hit the sweatband after the fact with a conditioner and you're good to go.
