This is my father's uniform and short overcoat. He called them his "Pink and Greens". From what I understand, he had to pay for them out of his salary and they were "tailor made" from his measurements. Because he had purchased them, he kept them after the war. Not so, his flight jackets and other gear. They belonged to the government, so he surrendered them when he resigned. The A-1 hanging at the left is my Goodwear. BTW, the monogrammed "GA" above the label is his initials.

Guttersnipe, far from it, I know many here are way beyond that crass act. As I said I'm against wearing them & trying to pass yourself off as a veteran, I'm sure many understand a general "you" without my need to say it.
And the wearing them to represent your passed family member, that I understand, if you are not passing yourself off as having earned them. I like GHT's post, where they wear them on different side to show they are repping a family members earning them.

Note: All "you"s in my statements are meant as a general you & not personally directed at anyone here on the forums. If it was a personal you I would never be so rude to call someone out like that, it would be a quiet word & sent via message.

When I was in, I didn't do a tailored class a greens because my unit didn't wear them enough to warrant it, I served my 2 & early discharged because of drawdown after the first gulf war. Let alone I earned my living & was not an officer. :D

And also Guttersnipe, I'd be willing to bet that those officers & ncos did have their bdus altered, my drills & black hat jump school sgts admitted to us they did, they had the pockets sewn shut on the woodland jackets, the thigh pockets were also usually sewn shut. I did sew my bdu jacket & thigh pockets shut, we were not supposed to carry anything in them after basic/ait training anyway, & my unit was far from strack but I liked the look of them. I even went so far as to cut the buttons off the pockets before sewing them so to make the surface as flat as possible.

EliasRDA: I did the same thing to a set of my BDUs before I went to AF Leadership School at Rhein Main. Cut off the pocket buttons and sewed the pockets down.

I knew of guys that had uniforms tailored for a better fit, but nothing made from scratch. This was mostly in Korea.
