Well, my workplace encouraged staff to wear it Purple Day to foster supportive, safe and accepting environments for our diverse community. Perfect opportunity to wear my Quetsche Boneteria Auloronesa.

I actually really like wearing my cotton based beréts in the summer. I have been in some pretty hot situations and I find the unlined cotton berét to offer shade (based on shaping it ) and an overall cooling effect. My favorite is the less expensive Espinosa berét below. I bought both from our magnificent purveyor of beréts Daan.

Nice to read all these positive entries on cotton berets. Actually, I can't wait to get mine on again, but on this extremely wet day with gale force winds here in Wellington, I may stick to my Auloronesa for the time being (like last weekend, when meeting this kekeno seal pup on the beach).

Alas, for those who find an Auloronesa or Super Lujo a bit too steep in price, there is now the Chirola 11p/31cm model - a remake for South Pacific Berets of the 1950's large worker's beret in pure merino wool with the traditional old label reinstated. This beret, sizes 55-62, priced at $47.50, is probably the best value for money one get get in this range.

The Chirola is a label that scores high on the "un-pretentiousness scale". Literally chirola means "worthless money" in Argentine slang, or a coin of 20 centavos. Here it stands for practicality, durability and quality - heavy duty great berets with a beautiful old-time label at a small price.

Interesting news, I hope, for beret collectors and boineros with a liking for small diameter berets: at the One-Off-Page are presently four vintage berets listed, all French made in the 1940s and 50s.

These berets are fitted with the traditional bayadère multi-coloured lining, so typical for that era. The berets are in excellent used condition, considering being some 70-80 years old; one is fitted with a leather band size 57, the other three have been modified into universel 0ne-size models (that would fit up to size 61).

The Beret Basque Pyreneas and Cambo model show the reverse cabillou, the very beginning of the one thread that creates a beret - the cabillou at the center of the beret being the other end.

Made of 100% wool in Afghanistan and Pakistan from camel or sheep wool, the pakol (also spelled pakul or pakoul) is commonly worn by people in Afghanistan, the North West Frontier of Pakistan and other areas of Pakistan such as Gilgit and Hunza. The best known pakol wearer was the Afghan rebel Commander Ahmad Shah Masood who fought the Soviet occupation of Afghanistan (1979–1989).

Last weekend I was at the Museum of Fine Art in Boston and I saw this self-portrait of French Impressionist Paul Cézanne. I wonder who made his béret?

Painter, author, poet, photographer, film maker, singer and guitarist Billy Childish is one of today’s foremost and prolific artists and, following a long tradition in the arts, Billy’s choice of headgear is typically the Basque beret, as evidenced in many of his paintings, woodcut prints and at live performances.

I have long admired Childish’s work and am incredibly proud to have teamed up with Billy to create a line of beautiful Fear Naught Berets for Worker, Artist & Artisan.

These mid-weight berets come in four earthy colours: raven; indigo; moss and russet, fitted with the Chyldish – Fear Naught woven label and a traditional British beret lining in pure cotton.

These berets are made in a limited edition at 90 berets per colour in three diameters: 27, 30 and the 31.5cm Super Foulard. Each beret comes with a numbered certificate at $54.50 - 57.50.

I'm a numbers guy... berets are nice to measure!

I have a few Boina Elosegui. My 13 inch Super Lujo is very much the same diameter as the Chasseur Alpin Original. The Super Lujo's wool is certainly plenty substantial, but the Chasseur Alpin takes it up a notch. I got out a scale: the Super Lujo weighs 5.1 ounces, the Chasseur Alpin weight 6.8 ounces.

At the Bordeaux Museum of Fine Art is a painting by
Rosa Bonheur from the late 1800's.
The painting is called "Treading the Wheat in Camargue", which is near the Castle Fontainebleau.
The painting shows a horseman with what looks to me like a beret.

In the 1960s, designers Mary Quant and Pierre Cardin worked with the company, whose products graced the heads of the rich and famous, including the Beatles and Arnold Palmer, and later Diana, Princess of Wales.

The Kangaroo logo was adopted by Kangol in 1983 because Americans were always asking where "they could get the Kangaroo hat...". No Kangol hat has ever actually been manufactured in Australia. The global rights to Kangol hats have been held by American hatmakers Bollman Hat Company since 2002 and all production went offshore, specifically to China and Malaysia.

South Pacific Berets stocks a small number of the original British made ‘Monty Beret’, some 40 years old but brand new and never worn, fitted with the traditional two air vents and the kangaroo logo.

Terrific find! I wish they were still making their hats here in the UK. Can I ask an off-topic question? Where did you get the black sweater?
