I have no shares in Tonak, but pemit me to say that my Czech Classic and 3 Service Stars haven't shrunk a bit and god knows we have had some serious rain!

Great to see you share my enthusiasm for these berets; for some reason one of the world's best priced and at the same time most undervalued berets.
Good news for those who appreciate these berets: more coming this way and soon available in Mammoth marbled brown (can't wait myself, really!).

Bleu de Travail translates as ‘working blues’ and is a catch all for the indigo-dyed cotton workwear popularised by French factory workers from the late 1800s. Bleu de Travail stands for jackets, shirts, or trousers, but when we talk about the Bleu de Travail today, it’s usually just the jacket. Simple, distinctive and hard-wearing; denim/jeans’ ancestor. The distinctive colour of the bleu de travail was not only an affordable dye, but also acted as a signifier to differentiate French workers from their foremen or managers, who wore typically black or white.

The Dutch HaVeP 3014 jacket is a true vintage original and a personal favourite. Unchanged since the 1950's, an original workman's jacket in 100% K1 2/1 twill weave 300gr navy cotton, fitted with 2 front pockets, 1 breast pocket and 1 inside pocket (all large enough to fit a well sized beret) and double row button fastening.

This week on SPECIAL in combination with a Bleu de France Basque or military style beret at the usual price for the jacket only + $1.00!

The Art of Spying

What started off as a kind of practical joke by my brother Emile (since aptly named the Beret Spy), has become quite an addictive activity: photographing beret wearers in the wild.

Last night at a concert in Wellington's Cathedral of St Paul’s I found two great victims. Unfortunately, I forgot to turn of the flash on my phone/camera, putting myself in a most embarrassing situation... (and the picture didn't even come out right!):

Alas, stoic and full of perseverance, I took my chance during the break halfway:

It is amazing how something that really is quite silly in essence, can become so addictive and most of all: satisfying. I guess it must have to do something with the 'hunter' in all of us. I'm sure the late Sigmund Freud would have something sensible to say about this new found hobby of mine.

Two new and beautiful additions have been added to the stock of Czech tartan lined berets: the burel-like wool colour of the Carpathian Mammoth, a deep natural brown with vague hints of copper and red.

Nice to mention that these berets first came to life in the mind of another Fedora Lounge visitor, who planted the seed in my head (and I'm grateful, having adopted one of each model for myself straight away!).

Available as a Czech Classic and as Tartan Lined 11.5" with leather headband. Some of the best value-for-money berets stocked at South Pacific's. And for those boineros unfamiliar with the Service Star model; the leather band can be worn inward (like a Basque beret) or outward (like a military style beret).

Given that i only asked a couple of weeks if more color options would come available for the Tartan Service Star, i can't take credit for this great addition in mammoth but I may well be your first customer for these berets!
And if I can add a suggestion: a Maroon Service Star!

Few things can compete with the great satisfaction a good beret can give you; one of these is a coat in burel wool by Le Laboureur.

This is my second, in grey. And really, I live in these coats for some 6 months per year! And, it fits pretty much perfectly with my new Czech Tartan lined berets in 'Mammoth'.

A good reason to celebrate with a new weekly Special: this week buy any Czech made beret and receive the iconic
Rybička ("little fish") pocket knife for free!

Shrinkage is inherent to any beret... snip... If you worry about shrinkage (a light density beret), fit a dinner plate the size of your beret inside it while drying - this helps against shrinkage and also maintains the shape of the beret.

The only shrinkage I've experienced is in the sweatbands of my two Laulhere's that are fitted with them. I have to keep stretchers in them as I rotate lids too often and don't wear them every day to keep them stretched out.

The dinner plate idea is a good one. I'll remember that should I get one of my lighter berets soaked. Usually, if looks like rain, a Tarte Alpin gets the call.
