I'm hoping this thread will have some experts here who can tell me the vintage of this ammo(?) belt I picked up at an auction...paid a bit too much I think, but anyway, i thought it had to be pre-vietnam as it's not green.

Definately WWII or before, there should be a date on the back. About 1943-44 the color was standardized to OG #7 which is a darker Green. If you paid around 50-60 bucks you did OK. I had a mint condition 1943 ammo belt that my brothers cat used for a litter box :rage: . It is ruined now but I still have it somewhere. I remember picking these up new for 10.00 in the 80s now repros are up to 70-100 bucks !

I got it for about $US25, taking a punt on it being old....looks like I did the right thing, no date on it though.

Definitely an M1923 to my eye, but no maker's name on the back..maybe it faded with wear, I think I can safely assume it arrived here with the first US troops in Qld in 42.
I knew I'd find the answer here!
