So I ask again, any opinions on me switching out the buttons for something gray or black? Anyone had any luck finding buttons that don't scream modern additions? thanks ahead of time!

Noooooooooooooo! Don't do it. Here is why. Firstly, the jacket is original. This was an unusual style of the time that a company would never think to do now. It is uniquely vintage and looks great. Secondly, it is a reallly cool but, but let's face it, it is a rather plain fabric. What makes it so cool is that it is done in such a great cut and has little touches such as the contrasting buttons. It also makes it more sporty and since you do not have the pants, you need to keep it looking sporty, especially since it is a belted back. So keep the sporty buttons.

As far as matching, no one expecst our outfit to coordinate with these buttons. The mind recognizes they ae an intentional contrast and does not include them in with the colors of the outfit. That is my opinion anyway.

putting brown/tan/butterscotch buttons on grey was a quirky thing they did in the early 30s, and we will probably never know what the thinking was behind it.
nevertheless it has become an identifiable feature of that period and i think it adds an eccentric bit of sportiness to a jacket. please don't change them.

I think if I wasn't colorblind, I would wholeheartedly agree with you guys & I certainly appreciate the time period window that brown buttons on gray fabric were created in. But actually being colorblind, I'm hesitant to throw myself into various color combinations, especially mixing grays with browns as in this case.

Can anyone show me some examples of how an outfit can work using this sort of situation? I really appreciate everyone's input! I am venturing away from blues and grays for the first time in my life, but mixing grays with browns I'm not as of yet comfortable with... Any help would be greatly appreciated! If I do switch them out, I will save the brown buttons for when I feel I've gotten my sea-legs in this gloriously 2 strip technicolor world lol

And resortes, I've got a frothing at the mouth bulldog guard dog as a mighty sensitive alarm clock :p

Finally!...someone who doesn't think their 70s repro looks good...now thats a jacket! I have a few belted backs myself...its kind of an obsession really...or just my favorite style! I just added number 11...
It looks good...even the buttons look good...even if those have been replaced, they're a good contrasting color...
Ideally, the jacket would look best with black or navy pants...maybe a burgandy tie to make it pop...

very nice find.

We all know the classic blue blaer or jacket, basically originally a suit jacket that was paired with cream, white, tan or grey slacks for a sporty look, started in teh twenties I think.

But I ahve also read that a grey flannel jacket was also an equally popular choice for this. Do you think those would go with the same color slacks?

I am thiinking cream would look interesting with the grey, as long as it wasn't too tannish, not tan. Blue maybe. White, interesting.

Awesome Suit.
I can see in MHO that the grey Jacket looks excellent. What appears to be pinstriping in the pants appears grayish to me in contrast with the brown in the pants. The striping ties in fantastic with the jacket, from what I see in the picture. The style is unique and works perfect on you. The buttons in my view pick up the pants but dont match them, they contrast making the 3 pieces co-ordinate just great. So you have the pants , with verticle gray stripes drawing the eye to the grey jacket which has those pefect carmel color buttons as another tie in. I really think the colors flow all together to form a splendid piece. Would not change the vintage buttons they seem to draw the pieces together. Oh and I think the white shirt and that great tie work great and capped of perfectly.
