Here ya go. I was thinking about rebashing it, but this is growing on me. I'll probably leave it as it is, after cleaning it up a bit ...

Not a bad lid, that block has a very "Mayor" kind of look... I like that! It's funny how one can take an open road and make it look kind of Country in some respects!

Say, this is off topic but, Baron, when did you get a hair cut? I must say, it looks good!:eusa_clap

Cut it not too long ago. Maybe a month, when it started getting too hot to have so much hair.

The hat should look country: It IS country. I like the asymmetries of this hat. I always like to break symmetry in my apparel. That dude is still working his farm on his own, at the age of 85. Quite a man.

Man, really? Where have I been? Oh well... looks good man!

Well, by "Country" I meant western if you will... I have a Stack hat that's a light gray but, it has some "Open Road" styling to it... I had to go to a 40's Western swing night once... I have a 40's western shirt that I wore but, I needed a hat... So, I took that stack and shaped it like a cowboy hat... it worked really well! Then, after the night was done, I shaped it back to fedora style... not a trace of the western block at all! Such a versatile hat!

You mean the guy you got yours from is still farming? That is so great!!! Farmers are truly an amazing type of man... they just don't stop working!

On the move again...
Most Open Roads I've seen on e-bay and in old photos have the cattlemans crease in it & the new ones definately have a cattlemans crease that are sold at a western store today. That's not to say that a bunch of them were shaped with a pinch front or a 'c' crown exclusively or with a cattlemans crease. I think most of us get quite lucky when we find one with an open crown just begging for a shape. The Open Road was a very versatile hat, then and now, which stands to reason why it was ans still is very popular.
Now I've seen a great variety on this site and they all look great, but Baron, again that is a classic shape reminicent of President Truman.

This was my every day hat. I wore it with everything, and it looked great with everything. Sadly, I've outgrown it. I can still pull it on my noggin, but it leaves a nasty crease in my hair because it is so tight. I've had to re-sew the bow twice, re-tack the lining many times, and have had the sweatband replaced by Art Fawcett. It's my Jimmy Stewart hat.

It's probably a 40's or 50's number. The brim is 2 1/2", and it looks like the Maltese Falcon hat in proportion to me. It's a size 6 3/4, and I wear a size 7. I would think that it would shrink back in time if I were to stretch it. I leave it in the hat jack overnight when I want to wear it the next day, although it inevitably reshrinks within a few hours after.

Here's my beater hat - its been through everything with me. Its a Keppler. Might have to retire it now though purely for sentimental reasons. (click for bigger pic)

And here's me putting it through some of its paces ;)

Well, these days I now have two beater, everyday hats - my Christy's Panama, for the days when it's 6,000 degrees outside, and my Federation. I recently refined the shape in the Panama, and have made a nice teardrop in my Fed:

pretty bad, but part of it is the quality of the picture. it kind of accentuates the stains.

This is even after attempting to clean it up and reshape it a bit. It was pretty weird looking before. Let's see if I can find a picture....There:
