I plan to be there. I help out with crowd control at the public Battles, and have been doing so for the past several years. Otherwise there really isn't much need for a homefront (Civil Defense) Auxiliary Policeman at the event.

I know we're not supposed to get political but stock up on your blanks ! I hear rumblings about a 500% tax on ammo.
Rumor based on a quote in an article in the Chicago Defender from 1999.

:eek:fftopic: Actually I read it on some gun forums, they mentioned a 500% tax on ammo. I went to the local Gunshow today boy it was crazy. I stood in the longest line than I can remember. Ammo was pricey but it was still being snapped up. I ran into some re-enactors there though (CHG) they even had a Russian unit . If I wasn't too old to take the dives I'd re-upped right there.

Well behind the front lines!

Yeah, I'm going; we'll see what jerk-you-around changes they've made this time. If nothing else, it's worth hitting for the eight buildings of vendors.
I couldn't say it better myself. I used to go all the time when I lived on the East coast (I'm about 3100 miles away now) and it was worth it for vendors but a event that large, there's always some screwups.
One year, I heard a guy griping about the "hurry up and wait" theme of the event, how transportation was always wait, they waited for ever and never seemd to know what was going on. I couldn't resit saying, "Heck, that's a perfect military experience then, they got it right!"

It's still rumor based on a quote in an article in the Chicago Defender from 1999. Before the election, the NRA circulated it and it has people running scared and stocking up.

I first went as a spectator in 1995 when there were three buildings of vendors, three Shermans and a great assortment of other vehicles. What happened to the Shermans, victims of a divorce or did the owner get tired of the pettiness? I heard several of the vendors back in January say they weren't coming back next year. They took a dump on the airborne units last year from a great height and will from a greater one next month.

not so much anymore
I believe the motor vehicle groups dont get on with the organizer anymore.

You do still see some nice vehicles show up at Reading AirShow in the spring.

The issue with armor and events, is getting paid their partially subsidy for bringing out their armor. I believe last time some armor unit wasn't paid, so all the armor owners were decided not to bring their armor this time around until the issue was cleared up. If and when it is cleared up, the armor will hopefully return.

Some of the CHG reenactor guys are in the 50's and one in his 60's and one in his 70's. The CHG has a ton of vehicle units so, older guys can find space in a jeep ;)
