A rare larger sized Bates, with padded elbows and shoulders. Marked a 44L, and to be honest that's what it feels like to me. I usually wear a 42 in contemporary jackets and a 44 or even 46 in vintage, and this is just slightly too big on me.
It has the classic "tailored by Bates" tag, which places it in the 60s-early 70s, acc to Rin Tanaka.
The leather is thicker than most "cafe racer" jackets (Brooks, Kehoe, etc), and is in good vintage condition I would say. It certainly has patina and what looks like one genuine example of road scrape on the sleeve (circled in pic below), but it's supple and eminently wearable. Really nice grain, which you can see in the close ups below. The lining is pretty worn and though wearable will probably need to be replaced at some point. Still has the original pocket zipper pulls, but the main zip has been replaced once and will need to be again. Check the pic with the close up, where you can see the zipper tape has torn at the bottom; it can be zipped, but takes some finesse.
So, a real find! The larger size and quilted padding make this a rare classic. Asking $485 to me, plus $15 shipping CONUS.
