Talk 'bout the American tradition.

Any of y'all used to collect baseball cards? I sure did. I got boxes of 'em in my closet back at home. I think my most valuable one is either my Derek Jeter or Alex Rodriguez rookie cards. Or some Reggie Jackson one somewhere.

Mark Grace

I collect Mark Grace Baseball cards... I have nearly 1000 different cards of his. Not a lot compared to some collectors... but not bad for me. :)

Wow.

I love Mark Grace.

Go Cubbies. :(

He's the active hits leader I think. Or 2nd most.

I used to collect cards in the late sixties/early seventies -- not just baseball, but whatever other kinds of cards there were out there, TV shows, Wacky Packs, stickers, any of them. I liked the gum, too!

With the baseball cards, I had my own approach to it. Rather than sort them into teams or whatever, I kept two different piles -- Cute and Ugly. For a long time, the top spot on the Cute pile was held by Tony Conigliaro -- who I got to see up close at Fenway Park on my first trip there, and he was even cuter in person (swoon). The top of the Ugly pile usually alternated between Andy Etchebarren and Joe Torre, depending on who had the worst picture in a given year.

My mother didn't throw them out -- *I* did, in one of my periodic "time to grow up and get rid of childish foolishness" binges when I was a teenager. I have lived to regret this. And I cried when Tony C. died.

I think he was the Doubles leader... but I am not sure. I was happy when he moved to Arz... it took him 1 year with the Diamondbacks to accomplish what 13 years with the Cubs could never give him... a ring! :) He now announces with Tom Brennen (former Cubs announcer) for the D-Backs. I am quite excited... on June 10th I will be going to a D-Back Game and I am sitting in the special section where Grace will be announcing from!!! I hope I can meet him!

Yes, doubles leader. That's what I was thinking of.

Tell him to move back to Chicago.

Sitting with the announcers? That's cool. I really liked Thom Brenneman and Steve Stone together on WGN. They had a good rapport and had a lot of fun; they'd do the middle innings when Harry Caray would move over to the radio booth. I love that, but they don't do that anymore do they?

I get the Astros on Fox Sports Southwest here, and they don't do that anymore. They used to.

I have a few cards, most aren't valuable, just players whose names I recognize. My most valuable card is an Ozzie Smith card from his SECOND year in San Diego , 1978 I believe.

Yes, for charity they marked off a section of the upper deck and named it Grace's Place. He will be broadcasting from there.

Harry Carey... I remember how neat I thought it was when after he passed, the Cubs wore a patch in the charicature of him on their uniforms!

I've collected football cards for 10 years or so - but I buy 'em in the discount boxes rather than a pack at a time. I have some hundreds of them. I have a few baseball cards too.

Ya, years ago.

I just wish I still had the ones from my childhood that were sacraficed to the bicycle wheel spokes......:)

The only cards I now have are a repo set for "Mars Attacks", the original Tops cards. I remember those so well as a kid....
