Thanks for the info. I am thinking 1960s. The ribbon design is similar to barrowjh's hat posted earlier in the thread.
Traditional Alpine hats also share the same shape and shorter brim and since they were sold in Germany I suspect that is probably not much clue for dating.

I just received a very similar hat--originally sold in Germany but via ebay.UK
It was listed as 58. Folded under the sweatband is a size 6-1/2 60 Label. They couldn't read or measure as its a full size 60. Also shipped in a bag not a box so its freshening up on the hat stretcher. I'll post pics shortly. Two sizes bigger than my head. Different sweatband logo.

Very cool! Another really nice ribbon in a similar style. Sorry to hear about the size problem.

Yes there is Alpen feel / look to both hats. The crown on mine is over 5 inches. I found a date of 3/09/61 (09/03/61) on the inner paper label. Does yours have anything that looks like a date?

I don't know if any of these numbers translate to date codes.

Doesn't look like it. Probably some where in the 1960s is my guess. What is interesting is Sardegna is Sardinia. I guess that could be the model name.

When you say "new", do you mean the new old stock, or the new editions...where are they made again?

Where did you buy it? NYC? A friend got me a Barbisio in the factory shop in Biella and it turned out worse than a beater.

They used the defective felt and it still cost EUR60...but even the defective felt was had a luxurious handle.
