Barbie Collectors

Not really, but my wife still has her's (two or three) from the first couple of years ('59/'60). Along with a case and a car (Austin Healey).

Early Barbies can be worth a lot of money, depending on the condition. And original 1959 #1 generally starts at around $3,000, and one sold a couple of years ago for over $27,000.

That '62 Austin Healey was Barbie's first car.

As a general guideline, brunettes are worth more than blondes.

No, I'm not proud of myself.

Amidst the impressive amount of knowledge you bring to this site, this was not knowledge I thought you'd have, but heck, if your wife enjoys it, it's nice that you participate at some level in her hobby.

My girlfriend, who has several passions, loves ghosts - something I paid zero attention to until I met her. Now, I'm reasonably knowledgable about the ghost world, etc. - and it is no small world. And where I was a pretty big doubter before, I'm still one, but much less so now.

My wife is. Consequently I know way more about Barbie than I ever wanted to. We have a "Barbie room"'in the house.

Oh how I long to have a "Barbie Room" that is indeed a great dream of mine! With three kids in the house there is no room.

Your wife could be sitting on a goldmine :)

I've been saying this for years.

When my cousin and I played Barbies, I always insisted on being Francie. I always thought of Barbie as kind of a spoiled brat, but Francie knew what it was all about.

This was one thread where I thought you wouldn't pop up as I felt pretty confident you aren't a Barbie collector nor did I see you spending much time with them as a kid.

I don't know about Barbies, but in real life, my friends who are women and who have been both blonde and brunette in their lives have - to a one - all said they get more casual attention from men as blondes.

I didn't pay them much attention myself, but my cousin, who was also my closest playmate as a young kid, was a Barbie fiend -- whenever I smell vinyl I think of the "Barbie cases" she had for her collection. So when I went down to her house, that's what we did. She liked to play with the accessories and such, but I had more fun imagining characterizations for the various dolls. Barbie was a materialistic airhead, Ken was a weasel -- out for Barbie's money but she was too numb to realize it, Skipper was a smartass kid who didn't like Ken at all and called him "Booger Boy", and Francie was the impatient friend who kept trying to wise Barbie up about the situation and wouldn't give Ken the time of day.

My cousin didn't appreciate it when I drew glasses on Francie's face with a ball-point pen, but I thought they added to the characterization.

Midge was jealous of Barbie but she covered it up thru passive-aggressive overniceness. "Oh wow, those shoes look SOOOOO GOOOOOD on you. Oh wow, really, those shoes look SOOOOOO GOOOOOOD." While Francie rolls her eyes in annoyance because she really knows what it's all about.

Well, I was going to say before that Midge is my fav, but given this take on her... I dont like the jealous types! hahaha

Redhead Barbies are worth more than brunettes. And as any man will tell about real life...there's something about those redheads. Wowza.

I believe New Jersey's own Bruce Springsteen said something about red-headed women, tires and rotation that puts an exclamation point on your sentence.
