I just got the Nubian Heritage African black soap. It's fantastic. I hadn't tried Nubian Heritage before.

I stumbled across the line last summer while in a beauty supply store and haven't looked back. lol. The only scent I don't like so far is the Lemongrass and Tea Tree.

I got a new Salux wash cloth and used it today with my Woods of Windsor rose soap. Wow, talk about a lot of lather! I never thought I'd get so much lather from a bar of soap. My skin feels like silk now, too. If the cloth continues to work this well I'll be throwing away all my pots of body scrub.

Does anybody here use Penhaligon's or Roger & Gallet soap? They are next on my list of things to try. I hear they're very high quality.

bunnyb.gal, Claus Porto is on my list too. What do you think of the violet one you got?

Does anybody here use Penhaligon's or Roger & Gallet soap? They are next on my list of things to try. I hear they're very high quality.

Roget @ Gallet Sandalwood is beautiful, one of my faves, the packaging is very lovely too. Penhaligons is pretty good too, although i have only tried the more manly smelling soaps, as my Dad uses their cologne and soaps. They were out of this world though.

Lareine, I've only used my violet soap once, but it doesn't seem as "filmy" as other soaps I've tried and the smell is heavenly. I can layer it with my (very strong) Yardley's violet talc, now.

I used to use South of France bar soaps, I got them from Whole Foods. Now I use Dr. Bronner's Liquid Castile Soap and just add olive oil to it to make it very moisturizing.

I don't have to worry about soap scum because I have a whole house water filter so every drop of water coming out of my pipes is filtered.

I got some of the Dr. Bronner's bar soaps today -- peppermint and rose. I tried the peppermint one, which wasn't as minty as I expected. It makes a nice creamy lather and I think it will be a good general bath and hand soap.

I use Dr. Bronner's peppermint soap and laundry soap exclusively. Love the stuff.

I just want to comment- This stuff is excellent when it is hot out (cools the skin) and also around the holidays (if you celebrate)- it smells like Candy Canes! I use the almond liquid in the shower most of the time, except when I am using the peppermint!

Wonder what ever happened to good ole Lux, Camay, Ivory..
Just as ponds is an all around fav for cold cream (which numerous here have attested to) my grandmother used the above named brands and, lived to age 103 with a lovely baby butt soft complextion that riles with envy ;-)
its all about genetics and not so much "brands" that will make or break your skin.

I'm faithful to sensitive skin dove soap, been around for ages, and besides, scrubbing bath tiles is what grandma did to stay fit!

I'm pretty sure they're still around too. I was shopping yesterday and found a lot of familiar names from the past, including a stack of Imperial Leather, which my whole family used when we were kids. Cheap and cheerful, but still a good quality soap.

Oh, I was talking about the liquid. Sorry. I have to tell you, if you like peppermint, you have got to try the liquid. It is peppermint! (Although, the stuff lasts so long that I haven't bought any in about 4 years). They have it available in small bottles, so you can test some.

Today is it hot as hades, so I'm thinking about taking a bath and/or shower with the peppermint liquid tonight.

I used to use Ivory exclusively until it became too drying for me, it was my go to soap for over 10 years. We still use it for hand washing, my husband showers with it. It's pretty cheap for soap, without a lot of nasties that I won't buy soaps with (like anti-bacterial stuff).

I'm a recent convert to bar soap. When i was a teenager, I took rather poor care of my skin, using whatever products my mom had. She has oily skin, and I have dry skin. And I don't mean run of the mill dry- my skin can rival the Sahara desert. So even though I would slather on tons of moisturizers, it made no difference in the long run.

After high school, I had been using St. Ives Apricot scrub almost daily. My skin felt nice after using it, but the texture left to be a lot to be desired after my skin dried up a bit. Kinda...hole-y if you will. After taking a few makeup courses, i learned the apricot kernel powder was to blame since it was ripping my skin.

I changed over to Queen Helene's mint julep scrub, which i still use today, but just on the weekends or the night before I have a photo-shoot. I love that stuff.

However, unless i am in the shower, its hard to get all of it off. So i decided to get a facial cleanser for everyday use.

Nothing that's on the market today fits my standards (too complicated, too perfume-y, too expensive...blah, blah blah), so I went the drugstore, broke down, and bought a bar of dove (white) and a bar of ivory soap.

The ivory dried out my skin and made me itchy *makes soap jelly to clean carpet with it*.

The dove has worked like a dream for me, and has started to re-surface my skin. I absolutely love this product, and I really could kick myself for the hundreds of dollars I've spent on "innovative" cleaning products.

I've been using Dr. Bronner's bars in the past few months, and this is the first time in my life that my face has ever stayed clear for more than a week! I was trying to use it as shampoo (did not work... even with all the stuff you're supposed to use with it..), but face-wise, there's nothing better!!

Sheeplady, I love Dr Bronner's liquid peppermint soap too! A quick wash with that, followed by a dab of witch hazel, is my summer cool-down ritual. Amazing stuff.

For bar soaps, I was a big fan of Crabtree and Evelyn's rosewater and coldcream triple-milled soap bars (that's a mouthful!), but I think they've discontinued it .

For my face, I also really like the Chandrika ayurvedic Indian soap. It smells really lovely and spicy, and is nice and gentle.

My childhood favorite was Cashmere Bouquet, which I haven't seen in stores for about twenty years. Currently I'm a big fan of Kirk's Castile -- it's simple, gentle, cheap, doesn't have a lot of guck in it, and lasts a long time.

I wash my dishes with Octagon bar soap, which is a big grey-green industrial-looking lump with a faintly lemony smell. When I used to get breakouts, I'd wash my face with it, and it cleared them right up.

I don't think so -- I bought some from Escentual just the other day. It has been shipped but hasn't reached me yet -- I'm looking forward to trying it!

When my aunt passed away 16 years ago she left me 8 bars of Lux soap. I used them all and that was the last time I used bar soap. Sometimes I regret it that I used them all, but I think Lux is still around over here.
