Interesting article on them.

For the uninitiated, the Los Angeles label founded by a former Creative Artists agent, Scott Sternberg, is leading the way in men's wear in a way that is just as witty but far less cartoonish than the Christopher Robin aesthetic of Thom Browne. Think of a wardrobe stuffed with handmade woolen waistcoats and narrow, striped cashmere knit ties, rugby shirts, Donegal tweed blazers, suits in corduroy and worsted wool, and all manner of oxford cloth shirts cut as slim as lottery odds.

BOO looks okay, but nothing has really struck my interest. The DIY blog look of their website is a little offputting to me. Then again, some may say the same of Thom Browne's website which is little more than a black page with white text giving a phone number and address.

I disagree that Browne is cartoonish. I've seen men wear his stuff without looking like "Christopher Robin." Then again, I've only seen them wearing the more muted aspects of his collection and not the loud plaids and stripes.

A revisit of mod fashions is always welcome.

Hmmm, "leading the way in menswear". Not sure about that one . . . people've been doing mod stuff for quite a few years now. Maybe not with deck shoes. I can't quite imagine "formal" deck shoes, but i may be pleasantly surprised (i suspect not, but maybe).

Oh, the horror of the DB notch-lapel jacket.

Eh, it doesn't look THAT bad...

My issue with BoO is their pricepoint...One could get NOS vintage for far less...But of course, this is the cheapskates pov

And Jovan, Browne is cartoonish...Almost any piece of his that ISN'T cartoonish could be found elsewhere.

This would fit in with Band of Outsiders.

Cartoon is in the eye of the beholder... which in a cartoon can be taken out and washed.

It's men's clothes tailored for women then put onto men.

Thom Browne makes clothes tailored for boys and put on men.

It's hard to notice the difference though it is there.

Luckily Ralph Lauren makes clothes tailored for men and puts them on men.

:eek:fftopic:

When I saw this thread title, I thought it was about the 1964 Jean Luc Godard film of the same name. Interestingly enough, Nouvelle Vague has a album of the same name, well "Bande A Part" technically, and they use a scene from the film for the music video of Dance With Me.

But now I see this is about a clothing brand and has nothing to do with either of these things, other than the fact that their clothes would probably fit in alright with the movie.

[End of random babble]

Isn't his thread about band of outsiders? Must we veer to Browne all the time? He's really not that important a figure to allow ourselves to get hung up about. Just a - relatively run of the mill - designer doing his thing. But at least a Browne suit doesn't look like the badly fitting Brooks Brothers grey 2 button notch lapel that 95% of American businessmen wear.

I'm conflicted. I think Browne's suits look silly on the majority of men, but i like the very understated departure from the norm and the conflicts it can create.

(btw I think pee wee herman is pretty sharp; JP you can't produce a photo to convince me otherwise)
