I wouldn't worry too much about it. Charlie Brown isn't going anywhere anytime soon.
The global nature of the internt allows every yahoo with a computer a voice.
If this is the level of complaint folks have about the media-
Dana Macario is a Seattle-area mom who, like DadCamp, has been surprised to find words like “stupid,” “dumb,” and “cannibal” in children’s movies – thanks a lot, "Toy Story," that last one was something I wasn’t quite ready to explain to preschoolers.
.. I seriously envy their sheltered lives.

That's the thing. It's been over ten years since Charles Schulz died, and "Peanuts" still runs every day in our local paper, Peanuts books and merchandise still sell, Snoopy still endorses life insurance, and the animated specials still run every year. Where will FooFooDaddy or whatever his name is be ten years after he dies?

As far as I'm concerned, the collected works of Schulz are as worthy of space in a collection of great Western literature as the works of Dickens. Both were among their generation's most perceptive analysts of human nature.

All I know is I've learned a lot from Peanuts...starting at a young age who Tolstoy was because of watching Charlie lugging around "War and Peace" over his Christmas vacation to knowing that "pantophobia" is a real phobia (and helped me lead a trivia team I was on to victory).

And who hadn't been introduced to Beethoven via Schroeder? :)

Exactly. Schulz' cartoon has achieved international fame and it's not going away anytime soon. There are rabid Peanuts collectors (I'm one) and even a Beaglefest where you can gather with other Snoopy/Peanuts collectors and swap/trade your stuff.

What this shy, humble man created was, in my opinion, nothing short of remarkable. Yet he said he was not an artist. I truly wish I could have met him in real life.

I agree. I know my kids know that things in cartoons are not to be taken seriously. I have taught them that just because Tom and Jerry beat on each other, doesn't mean that would be okay in real life, that if it were to actually happen, someone would be very hurt or dead.
While I don't indulge my boys in everything, I do make them aware that monsters are very real, they just happen to look like everyone else. So, all the better if I "have to explain" something they heard about some tragedy.
I am done, I am going off on a tangent.

Snoopy's even high on my playlist rotation, thanks to the Royal Guardsmen. (I really love this song!)

Well behind the front lines!
I guess if you don't like it you can always change the channel.
That's not people like Mr Mommy think. They get offended at something, and they REALLY get offended when everyone else doesn't also get equally offended at the same thing. Then there must be something wrong with you for not thinking as they do. That's how these people roll.
I once got into an argument with a woman over the old Warner Bros cartoons. She said the violence was unacceptable and they should be banned from being seen by anyone, much like the really racist cartoons that actually have been banned from TV.
This actually happened:
Me: What's the problem with them?
Her: They're violent!
Me: So? So's the news. You wanna ban that, too?
Her: But they teach kids to harm each other and there's no consequences of violence.
Me: So, you watched them as a kid, right? How many people did you hurt from watching them?
Her: But... that's not... I didn't do anything like that.
Me: So you think you're better or smarter than your own kids? How come they can't make the same decision you did or at least be as smart as you were?
Her: That's not the point!
Me: So you're saying kids today aren't as smart as we were as kids. Why must you insult the youth of today. I find that offensive. HOW DARE YOU tell me that kids today can't understand that a cartoon rabbit isn't real life!
Her: But... I... no, you don't...
Me: Okay, so you agree they can make their own decisions, so then you must agree they're at least as smart as we were as kids. I never harmed anyone from watching a cartoon and never met anyone who has. So can't you just admit that you have a burr under the saddle that really doesn't have anything to do with safety at all?
Her: But.... I.... (walks off, talking to herself)

I know, seriously. These people have to live some really sheltered lives when the worst thing you have to explain to a child is the word "stupid" as opposed to "why we can't afford to eat dinner tonight" or why their best friend "didn't get any Christmas presents from Santa" or is "losing their home and living out of their car."

Those are the kinds of things that parents should have anxiety about explaining to their kids, not the word "stupid."

I have a vast collection of Snoopy t-shirts. Just wore my Halloween one to work today. Then again, I'm weird that way.

I saw a post-Schulz CB shirt, and instead of saying "Good Grief" or "ARRRGHHH!" he was saying something containing "#*%@*#"... I don't recall him using that sort of language...

No, he never used that kind of language, and I get upset when I see people twist his words like that. But I guess you can't do much to stop it.
