Most popular is Mehmet Ozkan's "nine-piece special": pants, jacket, vest, two shirts, tie, belt, handkerchief, and cufflinks for $400. When his shop burned down recently, US troops helped him stay afloat.

For some reason, this makes me think of all the bullion patches my dad brought back from 1950s Japan. There are definitely advantages to occupying a country.

When people would refer to Beirut as the Paris of the Middle East my mother would say, "No, Paris is the Beirut of Europe."

I was going to use that phrase, but second guesses myself. Baghdad was definitely the most western oriented Arab capital, even in the days if Saddam.
