I swear by Aveeno Soy Clear Complexion Foaming Wash. I've been using that for a few years and not only does it seem to help with breakouts, but it helps to fade any redness from breakouts that you may have.

I wash with ASCCFW morning and night and I use it with the Aveeno Soy Brightneing Scrub and a big Buff Puff. Sometimes at night I'll follow up with Neutragena's face wash for Acne Prone skin. I haven't had acne for years, but I do have a horrible oil problem. I follow up with a Neutragena 8 hour control blemish gel (NOT the FADE gel it's sticky a leaves a gummy reidue on the skin and I don't think it works anyway) on any break outs I may have (not many with this regime).

I use Neutrogena Acne back wash on my chest and shoulder and back. For some reason lately I've been getting break outs on my chest and neck, but that's been recent and I thinks it's because of the hot humid weather.

This regime has pretty much kept my zit free for the past three years.

Here is a question associated with zits!
Do any of you ladies have the trouble that making out causes breaking out?! :p
I sure do!

I think it is because when I get steamy with a man, his rougher skin irritates my soft skin and it causes for zits and dry patches, especially the dryness around the chin area... all that chin-rubbing haha

So I was wondering what on earth could be done about this, I can't envision any potion working and abstinence is not an option ;)

I do the oil cleanse method and try to use mostly mineral make up, with the exception of mascara and the light foundation (by La Prairie) I put on before I finish with mineral powder... if any of your ladies have suggestions, I would love to hear!

My problem is that i have very very tiny pores that become blocked easily- and once a bockage (black head) forms I need to manually remove it as futher oil just gets trapped behind it and the pore stretches and we all know that once a pore is stretched it can't shrink back down again- and damaging the pore can lead to more blockages forming! When I do use a skincare loop I can end up with nasty dry patches and damaged skin. At the moment I'm using tonnes of products by MD Formulation in thier hylauric acid range. It works fine but I have noticed that it can leave my skin over-dry and it makes it prone to sun damage. Also my Stylist/ Beautician told me that acid formulas are bad for the skin and cause long term damage that isn't noticable until it's too late -and she showed me some write ups of a recent court case against some cosmetics comapny to prove it (can't remember which one)

Ive tried Ponds Cold cream before and the Witch doctor range of Witch hazel products and both blocked my pores BUT I'm gonna give it another shot.

Has anyone read 'Dont Go to the Cosmetics Counter without me'- it's a total must-read- and it has convinced me more than anything that nothing fancy works and the simple stuff is best. So I got:

Ponds Cold Cream (it was this or Boots own)
Ponds Vanishing cream (oil control- if it's the one I used to use- it's fantastic)
Distilled witch hazel (to remove any grease)
Muslin clothes for exfoliation
Pears coal tar soap for the morning (this or Dove-with hot water and flannel))
Uvistat SPF 50 for my face
Magnesium Sulphate paste (for spots and as a clay face mask)
Nivea cream (for occasional dry spots)
Vaseline (it works wonders on healing skin e.g. from extracting ingrowing hairs)

The only thing I might add is some hydrogen peroxide for spots (but i don't really get infected spots- just blackheads)

This lot cost me less than £30.00 and compared to my usual stuff which could be about £300-400- thats bargain!

I'll let you know how it works

Stubble-rash can be quite common :) . I'd suggest an emolliant cream applied to the dry areas- such as vaseline or E45 cream and leave on quite thick for good while e.g. over night or of an evening when you are not going out. That should ease it. The next thing I'd do is use a muslin cloth and some creamy cleanser to rub off the softened flakey skin and then apply some more emolliant cream. Don't be too harsh but once the skin is dead and dry the best thing is to get rid of it and reveal the healthy the skin cells underneath.

Hope that helps.

I'm getting really down about spots. When I get the odd one or two on my face they go in a few days, maybe a week.
But I keep getting them on my chest, not all over but I have had about 5 recently, but they stay for AGES. Weeks and weeks sometimes. I don't understand why and it limits what I can wear because it's embarrassing and I don't want them to show. :(

Summer comes fast in Florida and Zits come fast on my cheeks.. :(

I'm currently suffering some Cystic acne, yuck. Any solutions? I've tried Murad, Proactive, retin-a, Obaji (SP?), Natural stuff, birth control (which made it worse).... basically everything... I don't want to do the accutane route..

I don't eat fried foods or drink soda, and most days I wear an organic tinted moisturizer and powder.

What worked for you??

When I was a teenager I had that problem, especially around my shoulder blades. I used a tea tree shower gel at times, but generally just dabbed on whatever I was using on my face, such as witch hazel. I'd also use fake tan just to hide the contrast slightly. Try to make sure you don't let your chest get oily, especially in the heat. Carrying some wipes in your handbag that you can use to wipe your front down when you visit the loo might make the problem a bit better. xx

Jezebel - while I don't suffer from cystic acne myself, a close girl friend of mine did for a very long time. She tried all the solutions you've mentioned with little if any luck. It took until just before her 30th birthday, her doctor finally looked at her skin and said, have you tried oral antibiotics? I think it only took a round or two, and she has some of the most beautiful smooth skin you've ever seen in your life (doesn't help that she's gorgeous otherwise, too, I suppose) to this day. Talk to your doctor if nothing else works, everyone's solution is different. Best of luck to you! Oh, btw, where are you in South Florida?

Thank you Gracie... I'm going to the dermatologist in two weeks maybe I'll try that. See what other oral antibiotics there are. Right now I'm doing acne facials every 2 months that are about $80 with tip. :( It's getting expensive this problem! I'm in Hollywood, Florida by the way! :)

I am a refuge of zits, oil and blackheads too back, face, arms etc. In the past year have started making my own skicare products but I have a secret weapon! If you are not allergic: fish oil and plant oils aka essential fatty acids! I take a supplement of omega 3-6-9 by Natrol. It works wonders and better then any oral anti-biotic i have ever taken. The essential fatty acid 3 is the only fish part. 6 and 9 are plant oils. I recommend it to everyone! You literally will see results in a week! BUY IT!

i've had problem skin since i was born... eczema as a kid due to a fat allergy (i couldn't eat too many dairy products...) and just a lot of allergies and very sensitive skin. it's often combinations of things that cause it, so it gets very hard to predict! i can take antibiotics safely, but if i accidentally combine these specific ones with something else, i can get a nasty reaction in one day... and i have an unpredictable sunlight allergy.

anyway, back on topic: i have a sensitive combination skin, and msot treatments for the spots i get would just dehydrate my cheeks or make the problem ten times worse by adding irritation to the breakouts. even the stuff you get at a pharmacy, like vichy, was waaaay too harsh or just didn't do anyhting.

i recently switched to lush products and it helped a lot! i talked to one of the shop assistants to pick a treatment and she told me it's not necessarily the oil in skincare that causes pimples, but the excess oil that stays on your skin. i now have this routine:

morning: lush babyface, breath of fresh air, vanishing cream. every few days i also use this swedish soap based on egg whites, lanolin and rose water: i use the foam as a mask that literally draws the dirt out of my pores without dehydrating me face... after rinsing off and moisturizing i just feel really soft and clean. i also use a mild scrub with oatmeal and honey every week to get rid of all the dead cells.

evening: just the babyface, breath of fresh air and vanishing cream. these three are really nice for sensitive skin, especially babyface!

I was on it before too. And i'd kill to have it again now.

My skin is a joke right now. Has been for a little while now. Nothing seems to shift it.

the swedish soap is called 'lanolin agg tval' but you find it on amazon if you search for 'victoria egg white soap'. it's fairly cheap and lasts a long time.

all these three are from lush, but i'd really advise you to go in store and talk to a shop assistant, since different products work differently for people. i once got a sample of one of their moisturizers, people rave about it, but i had an allergic reaction to one of the ingredients! some of their stuff also has a typical smell, so it's nice if you can test things first before you buy them. oh, and don't let the price scare you off too much, they are pricey, but if you use it correctly most of the products last and last! it took me a month to just use up the residue on the lid of the vanishing cream.

The products I raved about on the previous page to your post are by the woman who wrote that book. So, try it!!!!

I have now been using them 6 months, I will NEVER EVER change to another product line. My skin has been PERFECT from the first week on, all my wrinkles are going away, all my blackheads are gone (let alone the regularly appearing cystic acne - gone!), I am dewy and not oily and it is a MIRACLE!!!!!

Did I mention samples at less than a dollar each? And they have specials all the time with free or cheap shipping. And it is NOT really expensive.

Here's the link:

Mmm when mine flared up 6 months after coming off it my new GP basically refused to send me to the dermatologist again, despite my previous GP being happy to send me there as they could see over the years I'd tried EVERY different type of face washes/scrubs and gels, all the 'cyline' antibiotics under the sun, dianette etc. so the last option was roaccutane. It was a hard going 6 months what with the side effects but ultimately worth it.

Can you ask them for another referral so you can go back and get Roaccutane? :)

I use the Simple products, although not designed to beat acne, they are good at not flaring up skin and keeping it clean. If I get a spot I use the neutrogena on the spot kit, for me now a lot of it is down to keeping my skin clean, drinking tonnes of water and eating lots of veg. :D It's not the acne that used to form big pustules and look like a rash across my face so I just have to deal with it.

Well it's been about 4 or 5 years since I was on it and i've moved since. About a year ago I asked my current GP about it and she flat out refused. It's not severe enough. I understand that, but it's bad enough to make me not want to go out and surely that should count for something since nothing else works!

I've been using the clinique 3 step programme for about 5 days and I don't think there's been any change. I did the online test and it said I was a 3, but the lady at the counter asked me one question and said I was a 2. So maybe she was wrong and that's why it's not really working.
